Can the “Big Screen TV” claim be substantiated?
I’m grateful to this esteemed Representative. All along, I thought it was only our own 47%-ers who were living a life of abject moochery. I had no idea that the desperate people packed into underfunded detention centers were in on it, too.
Those kids sure sound like they’re tired, poor, homeless, tempest-tost huddled masses. But they came to the wrong place to breathe free.
I recall that and I recall his Facebook page when that video hit. The whole country was yelling at him and nine out of ten of his constituents said they were ashamed. You’d think that much contempt could kill a person, like radiation, but no, here he is again, alive and running his mouth.
It never ceases to amaze me how members of the GOP just make shit up.
I expect every talking head and pundit on the cable tee vee is going to start asking why this guy won’t visit the border now, right?
It’s a deeply held belief and you have no right to question it.
Ignorant fool–they really do breed a special kind of stupid down in Texas.
I just noticed, he looks like and older, even more stupid George W. Bush. Ugh!.
Translated from the original Repuplicanese:
Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) on Wednesday declared:
“I’m an assh^le.
Everything I’m saying is a lie.
Even though there’s photographic proof otherwise?
I’ll continue to be a lying assh^le as long as there’s a TV camera running.”

If everything you believe contradicts reality, you’re pretty much forced to.
They should immediately stop immigrants watching the World Cup. America is opposed to torture.
Isn’t it ironic that “Randy” Neugebauer (meaning new settler in his ancestral language) is villifying repatriation to the land his Teutonic forebears stole from the Native Americans and Mexico.
Especially if the immigrants are Brazilians.
Oh joy, I suppose this disproves the old bromide that everything is bigger in Texas. Rep Neugebauer obviously has an IQ so small that you’d need a big screen TV hooked to a scanning electron microscope to find it.
But take heart, Texas. If things still have to be bigger down yonder in Texas, you could always nominate Rep.Neugebauer to run against Louis Gohmert for the biggest idiot in Texas. Or has Rick Perry taken over that job too?
Neugebauer said that undocumented immigrants came to the U.S. partially due to the fantastic detention centers.
Fantastic. What an asshole.
I know how you fell. I live in Georgia with Nathan Deal. I hope you will work hard to try and see he is not reelected.
Every 24 months.
There’s that wonderful outreach the christian right is so famous for.
I really don’t see how they take the Senate or increase, if not outright lose, seats in the House this year. Unless Dems just don’t vote.
But they seem to be going out of their way this election cycle to drive women and Latinos and … well, everyone not a rich white christian male to the polls in droves to kick them out on the street.
I just want to point out that if this asshat really thinks the problem is that people in Guatemala believe sending their kids to the US will allow those kids to live large on the US Government’s dime, he is only making that problem worse by spinning the deplorable conditions the kids are being put through into some perverted image of free lodging at TGIFs.
If the problem is an incorrect image of how welcoming conditions are, why lie about those conditions and pretend they are much better than they are?
Of course, the reality is that anything in the US is a huge step up from the conditions these folks are fleeing. That is why it is called a humanitarian crisis; conditions on-site are sub-human, so fleeing literally anywhere is worth any cost even their own lives.
The GOP mentality is so simple-minded. This reminds me of their stance on the judicial system in general - which seems to be that if only you make the punishment for every crime drastic enough, eventually there will be no crime. That is somewhat true in some cases, but those cases are where the punishment needs only be relatively mild to dissuade criminal activity. In the “hard” cases you are not dealing with a calculating individual weighing their chances of getting off scott-free against the punishment they might be subjected to; the hard cases are the ones where no such consideration has a chance, and so we have to prevent crimes using other non-punative means. Examples include “crimes of passion”, mental illness, and addictions. The stock Conservative answer to all these issues tends towards “just double the penalties and see if they are stupid enough to do it then!” (except crimes of passion, because of course that’s something that People Like Them might one day fall into). It is the same response to immigration.
To put it bluntly: if the very real danger of being raped and murdered along the way to the US, and the very real likelihood of being exploited while here, and the guaranteed loss of every material possession, do not dissuade a person from coming to the US, punishments up to and including the death penalty will not stop them from trying. So, you have to use other means.
In this case, this is a bona fide humanitarian tragedy driving this influx of immigrants. The “add more punishments” response is not just not going to work, it is downright cruel. The “strengthen border security” response might work to keep the effects out of the US (with obvious historical counterexamples), but does nothing to stem the real human tragedy which is more important than some rich person in the US having to pay a penny more in taxes this year to provide food and lodging to immigrants. The only humane response to this kind of humanitarian disaster is to address the root cause, which takes looking outside the US borders and helping the source country get back on its feet.
