“Generally, collection activities by intelligence agencies are classified,” Chaffetz and Goodlatte wrote in their letter, adding later that the "release of classified national security information can, by definition, have grave effects on national security."

Yeah, so can colluding with hostile foreign entities.

Oh of course. Jeff “cattle prods are optional” Sessions has a hand placed hatchet man at Justice by now, part one of the Stalin style purges coming up at your behest.

Probe this Jasoninthehouse:

Yesterday our president was openly threatened. Russians Lament anti-Trump Purge in the pages of The Financial Times by two officials of the Russian Federation.

Nikolai Kovalev, former head of the FSB: “This is disinformation. There’s an information war against Trump in which, as we can see, all means are [considered] necessary. These political games will continue as long as anti-Russian sentiment has a serious presence in the American establishment.”
Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the Lower House: “He needs to enact his campaign platform. He said everything in his campaign platform: restore relations with Russia and China, and fight terrorism. When they enact the campaign platform, everything will be fine.”

And we got spy ships, and we got cruise missiles being deployed for who knows what purpose, and we got God knows what else. And you want to throw leakers in jail.

Totally unacceptable.

Just so everyone’s clear here: Being a Russian mole is not nearly as bad as being the one that exposes the Russian mole.

Here’s an interesting interview Malcolm Nance did with ABC Australia. Well worth watching. (Runs about six minutes.)

@circusmax Spy ships off our coasts are nothing unusual. Just as our spy ships off the coasts of Russia, China, North Korea, etc. are not unusual.
It’s also worth noting that Nikolai Kovalev was/is a business “associate” of Rex Tillerson.

Ya check Chaffetz , you seedy little troll.
Where was the concern about the hacking into the DNC?
The problem isn’t the fucking leaks
The problem is we have people in our government colluding with the Russians and foreign powers.
That would be something to investigate
Just jaw dropping temerity

Republicans demand action to protect their highest priority - keeping the American public from finding out what Trump and the Republican Congress are really doing.

Wow they’re not just going to sweep it under the rung, they want the DOJ to do the sweeping.

They are not “leakers”–they are whistle blowers. It’s a mistake to even go along with the rhetoric that 'leaks" are a bad thing. Whether or not that’s true in general is beside the point. The members of the IC who are giving information to the press are simply people doing their part to save the country because a totally corrupt Republican Congress–exemplified by Chaffetz–is more than willing to let it be destroyed.

Essentially the leaks we are discussing are institutional leaks by intelligence professionals concerned about Whitehouse ties to the Kremlin. I don’t think an investigation is going very far. Trump just needs to realize there are limits to his power.

The House GOP looks like bit player in a war between two syndicates. They are trying to preserve their newsstand on the corner while two mob outfits are fighting for control of the city.

The Russians, the CIA, and Jason Chaffetz are fighting for power. Place your bets.

True that. Note that the leaks started to happen because Comrade Coir Coif refused to remove Flynn from one of the most sensitive positions in the frickin’ government after being warned by Yates.

It’s also worth remembering that the author of the dossier first uncovered these nefarious links and was so alarmed by what he was discovering that he tipped off the FBI — last summer!

Probe 'em Jason! You’ll find what the majority has known, all along; our Dear Leader has surrounded himself with liars, hypocrites and opportunists. Leaks!!! No surprises here!

I didn’t know that. These people are as guilty as sin. Or at least as guilty as Flynn.

Yep and yep

In a free country, information about citizens is protected by law. Information about the government is open to the public.

In a police state, information about the government is secret and he citizen’s lives are open books.

Such total information inversion is necessary to facilitate the crimes of government and to prevent those crimes from becoming public knowledge

As summed up by Al Gore
"By closely guarding information about their own behavior, they are dismantling a fundamental element of our system of checks and balances. Because so long as the government’s actions are secret, they cannot be held accountable. A government for the people and by the people must be transparent to the people. "

I’m betting it all on the good ol’ US of A. That means Jason and his probes are toast.

The GOP has to know how compromised Trump, et al are. They can make a great show of getting a GOP shop cop to not find anything, but they have to know. While the GOP dodders, the Russians are building world empire. The Russians know Congress is incapable of responding for fear of losing political power. Party over country is a policy that pretty well assures there will be a lot less country to be in charge of.

I honestly don’t understand Chaffetz’s motivation here. He knows that the Senate is moving forward…if slowly and clumsily…with investigations into Flynn and other Trumpers connections with the Russians. He knows that Trump is very unpopular in Utah. And he should realize that this is a very weak administration, so currying favor with them isn’t going to have much of a return.

Not to mention, that there is an extremely high probability that even this type of absurd investigation is going to reveal even more bad news for Flynn and the Trumpers. Hell, if he wants to cozy up to Trump, just stick with “Nothing to investigate, its been taking care of” approach.

You don’t beat the intelligence community in this game.
