Discussion: House GOP Reverses Course On Gutting Office Of Congressional Ethics

Out of the gate, they trip and fall flat on their faces. Losers!!

That’s what I was wondering too, Chammy. I read of the scheme as I was heading for bed in California last night. By breakfast time it’s all over?? Someone held a Mark VII, 15 round Re-election Optics revolver to their temples.

They will regroup and effectively gut the OCE in other, more subtle ways. They won’t let this go. KAC was just on The Today Show this morning “explaining” the reasons for eliminating the ethics panel. It’s all doublespeak and bull shit spread by Trump’s senior honeywagon.

OK, I responded to Josh’s request for help getting a vote count on this, and I called my Republican Congressman’s office in DC and politely asked the person on the phone how Congressman Kinzinger voted. He assured me that he would relay the message to him and I would receive a response (I haven’t). So it was not Donald Trump, but ME who is responsible for the reversal!! You’re welcome!

But really, it felt good to engage! In fact, I was inspired and encouraged this morning by this piece in the NY Times today, encouraging Tea Party tactics for progressives, and linking to an actual action plan, called “Indivisible.”

Norm Ornstein at the Atlantic for one, the guy who told us a long time ago that everything that was wrong in politics was because of republicans.

@anniew He’s already being given credit, at least by Bloomberg.

President-elect governing by tweets while sitting President is still in office. There’s so much wrong with this it makes me sick to even write it.

It appears his staff wrote that. Maybe at his request, but it’s not in the usual immature style of his usual tweets.

OK so I’ll be upbeat and say this is the first victory of the Trump era, sort of like the Doolittle raid on Tokyo early on in WWII, not the end of anything but certainly one for the good guys. And why question whether it was really a backlash and outcry? What was it if not? An attack of conscience? Uh-uh nope nohow.

O/T, but good news nonetheless. Went to the swearing in Sunday of all the Democrats who swept to office here in Houston. Parts of Texas may still be all fucked up, but Democrats swept the board in Harris County. (Only the exurbs went for that person. Hillary still won the county by 54-42.)

They’ll slip it into some sort of must-pass legislation this spring.

The GOP is the model of political corruption, and won’t let anything stand in the way of its grifting jackass members.

Which is just going to make their being ripped-off even that much more funner.

You can’t save the brainwashed. But I’m willing to take their money.

McCarthy proposed bipartisan effort to draft changes to OCE, to be delivered by August recess. Accepted by conference by acclamation.

There was genuine outrage, from Dems and Repubs, saw it explode over Twitter.

Have no idea why this, but not other stuff, ignited it. Knew it was real when I started to see RW’ers like Mark Sanford come out strongly against it.

What a bunch of mamby pamby milquetoast these aholes are. Meet in ‘secret’, pass crap, backlash via social media, reverse course and…try again in secret only move to not allow anyone to film/speak before it becomes law…and then whine and snivel how ‘hard’ it is to put back…ala North Carolina…

We can hope that the carte isn’t as blanche as congressional Repubs have been assuming.

Foolish virgin.

The Repubs merely altered the schedule for normalizing their monumental corruption.

So let me see if I’ve got this straight:

House Republicans prepare to wet their beaks by gutting the ethics procedures. President-elect “Conflict of Interest” scolds them. They backpedal. Grifter-in-Chief goes on to make millions, while they get the shaft.

If I’m a Republican Congress critter, I’m pissed.

Don’t complain just here where you are preaching to the choir.

Backlash matters!

Put the fear of GOD into your representatives. Better yet, put the fear of losing their JOBS into their lost souls. This they fear more than GOD!
