Why not make it so Godly Republican Farmers can get theirs, but deny it for the you-know-whos in the cities?
Private Citizen Proposes Tougher Work Requirements for Representatives and Senators
Legislation proposed Thursday would require able-bodied Representatives and Senators aged 18-59 to work or participate in committee meetings for 20 hours a week in order to receive their federal salaries.
Great way to get re-elected, assholes. NOT.
How many of those 40 million people that get food stamps, having additional family members (including vulnerable children) who suffer from food insecurity on a daily basis, will be certain to vote all your sorry asses out of office if you do this? I hope there will be 40 million of them raring to get to those polls.
For fuck’s sake, we’re talking about $450 a month for a family of four! In other words, you monsters should try living off of $112.50 between four people. It can’t be done without huge sacrifices, no matter how many mandatory work hours you slap on top of a struggling mother or father trying to care for their children.
Dammit to hell. I hate these people. I hate these people. I hate these people.
“We believe breaking this poverty cycle is very important,” Conaway said.
Because nothing breaks the poverty cycle like malnutrition.

hey, if you can lift a fork to your mouth, you can lift your hand to pick up a shovel and start in on those hog pens - lazy good-for-nothins
This action by Republicans confuses me. Are they deliberately trying to make themselves less popular with the public, and therefore less electable this November?
“…food stamp benefits that average about $450 a month for a family of four.”
Pop Quiz:
Which form of “Treasury-draining welfare” costs taxpayers more?
A. $5,400 per year in food stamps to the average family.
B. $100,000 per year in agricultural subsidies to the average farm.
Show your work.
Some of the poorest folks receiving food stamps in the country live in Appalachia and in the Ozarks, tRump country, and surprise, surprise…most of them are white people. Just so we’re all clear, these morons are trying to resurrect an old playbook going after a phony stereotype of the old Welfare Queen using their not too subtle dog-whistle. Blowback will be a bitch this time though. Its bad enough they don’t value funding public education but now they want to steal food out of the mouths of babes.
“Conaway also announced plans to create a national database of SNAP recipients in an effort to prevent people from signing up for the program in multiple states, though he could not say whether such fraud is widespread.”
Most SNAP recipients can barely afford a car or transit fare. Does he really think low income people buy a plane ticket, drive or get on a bus to travel to another state to apply for benefits?
This reminds me of the trope about people moving to another state in order to collect more generous welfare benefits. As if hiring a moving van is some inexpensive thing.
C. Slashing the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21% in the 2018 Tax Cut Bill for the Filthy One Percent.
(And that doesn’t include inflation the rest of us will pay on goods and services, like food, that these pukes made all the more probable, now that we’re headed for deficits as far as the eye can see, well into the future.)
Debate on the bill begins as Republicans are seeking to send a message that they are paying attention to the nation’s spiraling deficits and addressing benefits programs whose budgets mostly operate on autopilot.
We all knew this rank hypocriscy was coming, but I need to say this anyway: for running up the deficit, and then using it as an excuse to cut programs that help people in need, fuck you, rethuglicans!
and drug test, then, don’t forget to drug test them
they are talking to the base who believes the only people stealing benefits are black. or immigrants. Facts mean nothing to their constituency.
Only this president, and this Congress, would attempt such a brazen, cruel and audacious “hold my beer” moment:
Impose work requirements on SNAP recipients, many of whom already work, while states are cutting back on job-training programs and considering drug-testing recipients of government assistance (the feds propose kicking in a paltry $1 billion for job training – much of which will go to middle-class administrators and case managers, as per Paul Ryan’s Path to Prosperity – but would stigmatize them on a national database;
Farmers, who face their crops rotting in the fields as migrant farmworkers are rounded up and deported, face the additional prospects of reduced sales from SNAP program cutbacks and punishing tariffs in retaliation for Trump’s America’s First protectionism.
It’s a Trumpfecta!
Well, from a GOOPer’s perspective, that proposal makes perfect sense: now food stamps can become even more of a subsidy for industries that don’t pay their workforce a living wage. (see Walmart, fast food restaurants, etc.)
From Military.com Feb 21, 2018
According to a 2016 report from the Government Accountability Office, more than 23,000 active-duty troops used the food stamp program in 2013, the last year for which such information was available.
