Discussion: House GOP Plots Short-Term Bill To Punt Immigration Fight

Discussion for article #233732

Silly question, I know, but is the Congress the proper institution to provide members an outlet to “vent and come to terms with the likely eventual surrender”?
Aren’t there other institutions better suited for this function?

Yes. A bar. LOL!

Fox News and the “Jerry Springer Show” come to mind right off the bat.

With Boehner in charge, what’s the difference between Congress and a bar?

I swear. that pic of him makes him look like some brain addled, gin soaked old fool sitting outside of McSorley’s Ale house waiting for it to open.

Face it, Boehner has already lost in playing his own game.

Ever since last November’s election, I’ve been telling myself I should just try to stop watching politics for a while because it’s just going to get me worked up.

Well, lately I’ve been working up a major appetite for popcorn…

Rachel Maddow is right, Boehner just plain sucks at his job. If I was a repub I would want my money refunded.

It’s all over but the final cave.

I hope. I’ve learned to never underestimate the ability of the GOP to cook up some other equally offensive and obnoxious plan to thwart Obama. This failed, for now, because Dems in the Senate were united, and disciplined.

And willing to use the same stalling tactics that McConnell perfected against Harry Reid.

May they continue to show such backbone.

Because Dems in the Senate and Obama in the WH are the only folks preventing a further dismantling of so many programs that help so many people.

Sorry. Reject it and demand regular funding. It’s their job. They take our taxes for substantial salaries, which they raise every year without fail and then they have lifetime pensions to boot.

Rachel Maddow’s words just keep ringing in my ears - John Boehner is terrible at his job!

Boehner is tedious.

I can almost feel a tiny bit of sympathy for him, but …just…not…quite.

I imagine that devil’s deal he must have made to maintain his leadership has to be eating away at his soul right now.

If I were a good person, I’d feel sympathy.

Oh well.

ya know… this is bullshit… do your job Boehner and pass a REAL bill… I truly hope the Dems in the Senate stand firm and say no way Juan…

TPM:

House Republican leaders are planning to advance a three-week stopgap funding bill to avert a shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security and punt the fight over immigration.

Does the House want to threaten a breakdown of the gov’t every three weeks?

If I were the President, I’d be inclined to veto something like that, publicly call it game-playing, give a short public talk explaining why I was vetoing it, and demand a full year or two – or at least six months if that’s realistically the best that can be gotten out of them – of funding for the DHS.

That said, I suppose it’s up to the White House and the Senate to decide whether they believe that this is a holding action so Boehner can get his ducks caucus in order, or if they think it’s just more games from House’s GOP Temper Tantrum faction.

Yep. Pointed this out in the earlier thread. The House is going to CR-Punt it, then try and figure out how to get themselves out of their own, self-made disaster.
