Suggesting that Darrel Issa is a āmoderateā is ridiculous. Heās a scared hardliner in a bluing district.
As I keep saying, the Overton window is somewhere between Reagan and Genghis Khan these daysā¦and much closer to Genghis Khan than to Reagan.
Itās a good article, but I couldnāt agree more with your peeve. Itās been strange these past months with the press portraying white nationalists as populists and Issaās ilk as moderate. Where is the exit from this rabbit hole?
Issa? A āmoderateā? In what multiverse?
What you said !!!
All bark, no bite
Dear Republicans, when your head is in the toilet, donāt blow bubbles.
There have been a number of pols who went so far as to change parties, let alone change labels, just to stay in the game, Specter and Crist come to mind. Itās like PPās wealth. Itās whatever amount he decides it is based on what day it is.
A few days back I had a conversation with my (German) husband who was surprised to learn that the votes in the House and Senate are recorded (name and how they voted). He thought that would prevent them from voting their consciences. I pointed out it is one of the best checks to make sure that your Rep and Senator were doing what you hired them to do. And that right now, it is an effective tool to fight to save our society against our dick-tator wannabe. Imagine if they could do everything anonymously right now ā gaaack!
Took the words right off of my keyboard.
The day an arsonist used car dealer is even remotely viewed as a GOP āmoderateā just goes to show how far the GOP has sunk.
This should be an easy NO for anyone who is not a rabid reactionary. To claim to be undecided on this very bad bill is a sign of cowardice not thoughtfulness.
This is true except that the political makeup of Issaās district has been changing and he now has to posture himself as a āmoderateā in order to hold on to any hope of re-election. Every concerned resident of his district should be calling, emailing texting and writing him several times a day to let him know that if he votes for the Trump/Republican no care bill he will be defeated in the 2018 election.
With Steve Bannon nipping at te heels of the Heritage Fnd, seeking to become their new leaderā¦There is much at stake here. Iād say, if theyāre declared moderates, they owe they seats to like-minded votersā¦Theyād better think twice about how they voteā¦Hillary WON the popular vote by 57%.
Republicansā¦if you vote the wrong way, youāll be looing for a job SOON than you think. And the Heritic-fnd, if the put Steve Bannon as their leader, theyāll be following FOX news down the drain as well.
Ha, like that scene in Blazing Saddles where they stop to pay tollā¦
I love watching Issa squirm. Issa played a major role in the 2003 recall of California Governor Gray Davis. IIRC, He spent millions of his own money, and he thought he was going to be the next governor. He cried when Arnold jumped in. Much of the financial crisis in California was precipitated by the Enron conspiracy, with plenty of anti-immigrant hysteria thrown in for good measure. The pivotal issue that swung the masses was that Gov Gray Davis reinstated the car tax that had been suspended in better financial times. After Schwarzenegger was elected, he repealed the car tax " on day one" just as he promised, by executive order. Sound familiar? Unfortunately, California re-elected Arnold a few years later just as they were wising up to the perils of electing a populist movie star for governor. The pendulum began swinging the other way in California, even as the rest of the nation became more conservative. In the 2010 elections, republicans surged, but in California, a Democrat won every state wide office. Issa isnāt dumb. He has 2 things working against him. 1) redistricting in California has made his district more competitive ( thanks to a ballot measure by the League of Women Voters) and 2) he knows that when the voters get fed up with the bullshit populist promises, they can turn on his party.
If getting a bill passed is all about the math I donāt understand why the bill was not tailored more to meet the concerns of the moderates, or, so called, Tuesday Group. My understanding is that there are around 50 Tuesday Group members, whereas there are less than 30 freedumb caucus members. Why are they letting the tail wag the dog? Why doesnāt the Tuesday Group propose their own bill or changes to the ACA? It might even get some Democratic support.
GOP āleadershipā has attempted to ignore the idea of compromise for a long time now. Funny, but I think that is baked in to our Constitutional system, and they ignore it at their peril. Obstructionism may have worked fine in the past, it wonāt fly now. As others have posted here, I dispute the actual existence of any āmoderatesā in the House, but just maybe, some of them do actually listen to their constituents. They are all facing re-election in 2018, some of them might fear not winning their seats back. Hey, whatever works to hold back the rabid right wing is OK by me.
Thereās no squirming here in deep-red Utah. Our representatives canāt wait to take affordable healthcare away from their constituents. Theyāre 100% in line on this.
