“Lemming-like” says it all.
Go, lil folk go! Right over that cliff…
Paul Ryan is heading to the doorways and incoming Speaker is way, way, way out of his depth. Chaos!
Given that Trump never reads anything, and has no idea how the government works, they should just tell him that the bill includes $5 billion for the wall. The legislation doesn’t actually need to include it.
ETA: Every couple of months, someone can tell him that construction is proceeding apace. If he wants to see it, sprinkle some fresh dirt around the bottom of an existing chunk of wall, and let him go pose in front of it. His slow-witted base will lap it up, and we’ll all save money.
Less than 24 hours before Mar-a-lago and 15 days of golf.
And I hope that there will be 16 days of rain down there.
I hope the vote doesn’t clear the house… Trump hasn’t thought about what it means for him in a shutdown… he thinks he will be able to take his two week vacation like nothing was happening… big disappointment ahead
if he heads off and plays golf it will be his Nero fiddling moment and a few percent of his base is going to burn sufficiently to char into his ex-base. Just need a few to ensure his downfall.
"The Senate’s going to have a challenge to face. Do they want to secure the border or do they want to stick with the crowd that’s for open borders and won’t stand with the president? It’s going to be a clear decision.”
Everytime he opens his mouth I’m more and more convinced that Steve Scalise was shot in the head, not in the hip…
What will Hair Furor do if they can’t pass it, as Pelosi told him a few days ago? Complete meltdown or try to slink away to Mar-a-Grifto for his Xmas party?
Trump obviously saw the reaction to averting the shutdown on Fox and Friends and he concluded he had to shutdown the government after all. The GOP is going to march right off the cliff because Trump is an idiot. It couldn’t happen to a better bunch of spineless assholes.
“Who knows?” he said when asked what he thought would happen next, according to NBC. “Does the person sitting beside him at the [White House] know?”
At this point, I’m not even sure that Trump knows what Trump is going to do next. Perhaps only the little demon perched on his shoulder, whispering into his ear, knows.
Part of Trump’s problem here is that he isn’t negotiating. Instead, he is just having a temper tantrum and making demands. Yes, he wants $5 million for a wall, but what is he willing to give in exchange, something that might be attractive to Democrats?
At the moment, he might still be hedged in because anything he might offer would probably lose Republican votes in the House. He may have to wait until Democrats have a majority, but he needs to have something in mind that makes a win for the other side. He is probably congenitally incapable of making such a move. For him, to win, the other side must lose.
The other possibility: The parts that he uses to “think” with are located south of his belt.
How about comprehensive immigration reform?
It means nothing if not actually defined. Reform always sounds good until one gets into the details.
Trump and the Republicans really remind me of the ending to C.S. Lewis’ That Hideous Strength where the talking head that the bad people created (and thought they controlled) starts ordering them to commit suicide and they all jump to obey. The Republicans created the conditions for Trump and now they are wholly directed by his whims and id.
No matter how stupid the policy is (e.g. “We need wall”, #TrumpShutdown), they blithely follow along as if it’s the most sensible suggestion on the planet.
The senate passed a bipartisan bill a few years ago. Dust it off and bring it up to date.
Vote wall!
Vote fail.
Wall bad.
Negotiate fail.
T rumpp fail.
Loser bad.
English fail.
