Discussion for article #240665
This whole idea is as much a non-starter as de-funding or over-turning ACA, and for much the same reasons:
A) The vast number of Americans support both programs.
B) The foundations of the objections for both programs have been irrevocably determined to be without basis in fact.
The GOP cannot afford another shutdown situation and neither of these issues (yes, I know ACA isnât on the table, but you watch - theyâll slip something in on that, too) are anything the American people as a whole want Congress to waste time over.
Which is precisely why weâre having this discussion - the American people donât want it, so time and resources are being spent by a tone-deaf House of Reprehensibles.
They really, really, really want the president to veto SOMETHING.
Interesting how the word âkabukiâ has moved from Washington metaphor to Capitol Hill realityâŚ

Boy, they got him this time! Forcing Obama to either fund or not fund Planned Parenthood. What a dilemma for him, by golly.
âGood Timesâ marathon. You always make me chuckle.
would achieve a much-desired conservative goal: force Obama to grapple with Planned Parenthood funding directly, by either signing or vetoing it.
Dream big, GOP.
DY-NO-mite!
âHouse Leaders Float Yet Another Plan To Break GOP Shutdown Fever Over Abortionâ
SCHEME. Please never use the word âplanâ ever again to describe what these fucks are up to. These are not âplans.â They are SCHEMES.
PP prevents unwanted pregnancies via its contraception programs. PP saves the govât money in the long run. This conversation has gone way beyond abortion.
The GOP once again reminds us how badly they run things.
Worked in Maine. You might be on to something here.
Exactly.
The small (in all senses of the word)-mindedness of this whole thing is a case study in how unprepared the GOP is to govern.
Yes. The Repubs used the word scheme to dis a Dem idea, years ago. If I still had my younger brain, I might be able to remember the topic.
And of course,if his Tea Party Caucus rejects that plan,it means they want a government shutdown.
Itâs like playing Monopoly with 7 year olds. You can see them trying to cleverly exploit rules and miss the point of the game entirely.
He isnât the governor of Maine.

âachieve a much-desired conservative goal: force Obama to grapple with Planned Parenthood funding directly, by either signing or vetoing it.â
Oh please. Obama will put the pen between his butt cheeks and sign the veto by doing the twist. Hardly a conundrum or a pickle or something that needs to be âgrappledâ with.
Obama: âIâm not going to defund PP based on activist hack job videos intended to misrepresent whatâs going on. In fact, I wonât sign a defunding measure unless and until hearings are conducted that actually prove something untoward or illegal was taking place. Making budgetary decisions based on assumptions, speculation, rumors and information deliberately skewed by activists is foolishness. FOOOOOOOOLISSSSHHHHHHNEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS.â
Iâd give $1,000 right now to hear him say that and drag out the word foolishness at the end that way haha
Edit - And before anyone gets upset at me suggesting we should push for hearings, let me be clear: the GOP is never going to hold hearings and give PP a chance to embarrass them thoroughly with proof that this shit is all a Big Lie. Nor will they want these little activist punks subpoenaed to appear before Congress and have to face the music, risking perjury the whole time and further embarrassment to the anti-abortion agenda. So yeah, Iâm suggesting their bluff be called.
