I know it’s been said on these threads a lot, but I have to say it again: I really do hope this type of campaigning, the level of straight-faced lying, the calls for imprisonment, the stealing, the obfuscation, etc., doesn’t become the new normal. I really do hope the people running the GOP have some better angels sitting on their shoulders and guide them back from this lunacy. They’ve literally gone stark-raving mad.
Bakersfield and the inland valley area are chock full of bigots. Yes, there is a heavy concentration of Spanish-speaking people there, and I suspect that as time moves on, they’ll continue to increase in numbers. That said, the region is full of evangelicals and many of them are Spanish-speaking. Seriously creepy, end-timer types. I’m guessing those are the ones (of the Hispanics) who support McCarthy; they’d support ANY Republican.
I’d consider living in Sacramento–it’s kinda cool and very diverse with lots of culture and restaurants and bars and museums and such. Bakersfield? – No.
Wouldn’t it be a good idea for someone, ANYONE, in his scampaign to monitor Spanish media? You know, maybe get a sense of how he’s perceived in the native language.
Except, of course, that would require an actual campaign.
And hate towards women.
I’m a Californian and, although I’m not from the Central Valley (but my parents were), I would agree with that.
Trump also doesn’t speak or understand ‘Latino!’
beat me to it. Please proceed, Congressman, to encourage Orange Hatetron to spend as much time in CA, NY, TX, MA as possible.
I don’t think their is any turning back for Republicans at this point. They’ve made there base into this frothing brew of hate and fear that no mount of better angels can turn them from this path. The fear and hate was always there, but once brought to the surface it’s there for everyone to see and for some to feel empowered by.
I don’t think their is any turning back for Republicans at this point.
100% right.
People need to get it in their skulls that the Republican Party is a white Evangelical Christian Dominionist party, and religious fanatics never give up their fanaticism, because their entire worldview and personal identity is based on it. It’s a toxic mix of religion, racism, xenophobia, contempt for education, and veneration of authority.
The GOP will continue to shrink and harden, and as it does, it will constantly be shedding outer layers to the point where what’s left is a rock-hard kernel of paranoid, astoundingly ignorant, and thoroughly racist white people wielding the Bible as though it’s a talisman that can keep the 19th century at bay. It’s well on its way.
I’m from Fresno, about an hour and a half north of Bakersfield. The entire central valley is DEEP red, and from Modesto down to B’field their reps are ® - and the voters are fiercely loyal. Along the Highway 99 corridor between cities there’s a lot of farmland, and on most of those farms you’ll see signs attacking Pelosi, our senators, and the one Dem rep in the area for being “anti” a bunch of things, like water.
Trump has several hispanic friends and eats taco salad, no worries!
Oh, Kev. The baloney just never stops, pinche cabron. In Kern County, his home district and unfortunately mine as well, the key is and always has been discouraging Latino participation in the process. Kern County today is 51% Hispanic, meaning the Latinos could have it all outright, but guess what? They don’t vote and Kern has had voter suppression techniques in place that are the envy of Mississippi. Three of the five county supervisors are white tea-party guys and Ag/oil/defense dominates everything. Kern even hands out over 90% of the state’s fracking permits and has the worst air quality in America.
The truth for the GOP is that you need to make sure that Latinos never come near a ballot box, or you lose. David Valadao, CA-21, who shares Kern with Kev, requires that voter turnout is a quarter of a normal Massachusetts congressional turnout. Even another 20,000 voters and the son of legendary activist Dolores Huerta, Emelio Huerta, would be the representative but for the sloth and oversight in the race. DNC has given absolutely nothing to this fascinating race, which would be tantamount to overlooking a Kennedy in Massachusetts. Imagine, a Kennedy among Hispanics. Say hello to a white-guy GOP House in 2017, Democrats.
Indeed. Just like his LiTTle DiJiTs
“Food Grows Where Water Flows”
Westlands Water District.
Most people are terrified of being political other than expressing the biases of the ag-oil overlords. Subsidence, what subsidence? Selenium and boron in the soil, cancer clusters? Only a problem for the spics. Air pollution? I smell money. 10 cubic kilometers a year in unregulated ground water theft and injection/production frack waste water equivalent to the water use of 10,000 18-hole golf courses? Hey, who doesn’t like golf. And the legal system…just read Ed Humes Mean Justice. It is required reading for first-year law students, because really it’s an alternate reality, It is sort of like living in the head of the real economy mate of the “giant vampire squid” that subsists on the moral hazard of our cob-job regulated financial system.
Drumpf is making it a franchise.
I am afraid to say this, but Trump’s campaign IS the MSM.
PERIOD
And I do not know any way to stop the MSM from unfairly depicting Trump in the BEST possible light and Hillary WORST possible light.
bluestate, I agree with you. That’s why I am astounded that the MSM sector of the elite class is still pumping Trump**
** being that LOTS of people in the financial sector will be severely disrupted, along with close to everyone else
