Discussion: House GOP Holds Emergency Huddle To Talk Over Ethics Rules Change

The GOP move actually makes some sense. Maybe.

After all, the most ethically challenged, morally and financially bankrupt, and probably the most dangerous man on this flat earth to ever hold the office of President will be taking office in 3 weeks. It is more than fitting that the GOP house get down in the pig sty along with their leader.

Perhaps it was just jealousy. When Trumplethinskin spokes-liars keep saying that as president he cannot ever have a conflict of interest, could it be that the House GOP became jealous and decided to improve their earning potential while they hold office?

Every time I become despondent over how bad the new house, senate, and president will be, they somehow find a way to make things worse.

I’m trying to contact my rep, Jodey Arrington (Texas 19th) to see how he voted. Keep getting an answering machine.

Surely, they didn’t think anyone would notice, did they?

Because Republicans can only investigate - they can never be investigated.

Michael McCaul’s office says that he will not support the bill.

If it ever gets to the floor of the House for a full vote you can check your Rep or Senator’s vote here:

That the GOP seriously did not foresee this backlash is a testament to just how far outside the normal bounds of political and ethical decency the Republicans have wandered. Truly stunning.

I’m overly cynical. If this move fails, then Trump’s tweets makes him look like he’s a man of the people, willing to take on his own party; a true patriot and defender against tyranny. In spite of the fact that he never said not to pass the new rule.

The kabuki is strong with these ones.

Edit. Now that the gambit has spparently failed, Trump to take credit in a tweet in 3,2,1…

Just heard on MSMBC they backed down
First fight won!!!

Honestly, our best hope is that the GOP stumbles so badly out of the gate that their entire agenda gets derailed. If they’re getting pushback on this, just wait till they go after Social Security and Medicare.

If the OCE survives, we should all file an anonymous complaint against Rep. Bob Goodlatte for this un-ethical attempt to deal off the bottom of the deck.

Just called my critter to politely but firmly demand they undo this. Remember all the trouble we got into for “overreaching” by giving people medical insurance? Maybe we can return the favor.

I just called the Peoria office of Darin LaHood, my Congressman from the 18th District of Illinois ®. His staffer said that he voted “no” on the Goodlatte proposal in last night’s caucus. They expect him to vote “no” today as well.

I get zilch from Tom MacArthur NJ3 too.

At least have the guts to declare which way you voted.

Of course they didn’t foresee it, they’re true believers. They genuinely believe that gutting ethics committees, government safety nets, and benefits are heroic and they should be praised. They have zero awareness of the real world.
