Discussion: House GOP Eyes Cutting $1 Billion From Disaster Relief To Pay For Border Wall

Because the wall will stop future hurricanes from coming ashore?

Stop sea-level rise from climate change?

If so, then full steam ahead, asshat’s.

It’s always nice to see their spirit of abject callousness hasn’t been dampened.

As terrible as Ryan is, he’ll still manage to get the moderates to vote for this. “Don’t worry, the Senate will fix it - I mean it this time!”

Estimates currently place the cost of Harvey at $160B. I think it’s a safe bet that is significantly light.

Is this the excuse many in the GOP were looking for to kill the Wall?

How many feet and how many guns do these people have?

This is where I really miss Anthony Weiner for his floor speeches. He could really go to town on GOP hypocrites.

It would be fun if Texans had a referendum to choose between the wall and disaster relief.

Yeah, like that time in 2010 when Republican Rising Star Bobby Joe Jim Bob Jindal lambasted federal volcano monitoring funding in his epically terrible SOTU rebuttal two months before that volcano monitoring gave airline pilots advance warning of the ash cloud from the eruption of Mt. Redoubt in Alaska.

Or that time before Katrina when George W. Bush and Dick Cheney gutted out FEMA’s hurricane disaster management programming and devoted it Fightin’ th T’rr’sts and accused people who wanted to spend time and money preparing for hurricanes of engaging in “pre-9/11 thinking.”

Or that time in 2014 when Republicans in Congress cut and cut and re-cut the CDC budget right before the Ebola outbreak and then blamed Obama for not stopping it.

Or that time Republicans cut huge amounts of money from embassy and consulate security before Al Qaeda bombed our embassy in Kenya.

Or that time Republicans cut huge amounts of money from embassy and consulate security before Benghazzi.

This is how their heads work.

Rump and the GOP are already calculatin’. If he convinces Gov Abbot that new military operations (Jade Green or Blue Balls) are scheduled for mid September where Hillary and Obama and the rest of the “Resistance” are gonna use those black helicopters to get everybody’s guns and take over Texas maybe Abbot will take his state and finally secede and all that money can be used for the wall. After all … he is very smart, knows all the best people and has the best words … and he is bigly.

Maybe too soon but you can bet the people of Texas are just not gonna receive the assistance they deserve as Americans … they just won’t. As soon as the flood exits the front page … those people will be abandoned.

Hurricane Harvey has made sure that Trump’s trickle down tax code changes will be harder to lie about than the failed ACA repeal. Maybe this is when the rubber of lies and deceit meets the road of reality and impeachment ensues as Trump fully and finally alienates Ryan and McConnell.

Uhm, I don’t think so.

Republicans, meet reality.

They’ll take Mexico’s offer of disaster aid, dump that into the wall account, and call it a promise delivered.

This guy is the gift that keeps on giving.

Whiny’s backers are loyal to him for three basic reasons.
A. He tells them what they want to hear.
B, Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, thinks their own government is against them as much as a Teabagger does.
C. He is perceived as being ‘on their side.’ and would never hurt them.

Now, THIS has the potential to hurt some of them, all so he can build something he claimed the Meskins would pay for. Will it flip Texas blue? Doubt it, but it just might flip some Congressional districts that way.
