Shut it down until we get an up or down vote. Nothing passes until we get everyone on the record regarding the assault weapons ban.
Edit: Just realized that won’t accomplish much in a chamber that doesn’t pass anything anyway.
We will have a moment’s silence for the 49 shooting victims in Orlando and then we will resume ignoring the problem. Thank you.
What the fuck is he (Ryan) smirking about as he steps down from the podium? Thinks he just pulled a fast one? Ignored those pesky Democrats and their niggling objections? That’s cute, Mr. Speaker. Real cute. You coward.
ETA: And…" A moment of silence is traditionally held to commemorate shooting victims…" It’s come to this has it? “Traditional”? Is that in Roberts’ Rules?
He doesn’t care . Dimwit Donnie is his man and the NRA has him by the balls.
There is no shame , no sense of decency.
Party before country, and now Party before humanity
Good for the congressman from Connecticut. The House has been turned into a hang out for lizards and ghouls…it is an embarrassment for the country.
The Honorable House of Representatives.
After Sandy Hook, I stopped listening to all “moment of silence” from any GOP-controlled legislative body. Instead, I joined and make monthly donations to a gun control lobbying group that needs to grow large enough to engulf the NRA. That is absolutely the only solution I see for America to stop this sanctioned slaughter across the nation, day after day…
That says it all.
In times past, governments would ask for a moment of silence to honor their war dead – AFTER THE WAR HAD ENDED. I’m sure the British will hold a moment of silence at the Cenotaph this July 1 to commemorate those who fell at the Battle of the Somme, a century ago. Republicans hold this kabuki theater every time while this carnage is on-going with no intention or effort to bring it to an end, when a moment of silence might have some significance. It’s just show, intended to sway the dimwitted.
These Democrats are right – at some point, people need to push that envelope open even further until we start making some substantive progress on this problem. How obscene that this “silent minute” has become so normalized that some House members act like it’s all they need to do to deal with the latest tragedy. Truly sickening.
While every one of these events is unique with regards to the location, the killer(s), the number and type(s) of victim(s), etc., there are some common denominators: mental health, auto- and semi-automatic weapon, the relative ease with which the killers obtain the weapons and key indicators of possible issues/problems the person was planning such an event.
Outside of the possibility of another Constitutional Amendment, the Second Amendment is here to stay. How we, as a civilized society, interpret it says a lot about us and determines not only possibly who and how many people are saved, but what value we place on those people’s lives. All Constitutional scholars recognize the 2A dealt primarily with the need to protect the fledgling nation from outside aggressors (including Native Americans), but also their understandings of just what constituted a firearm had nothing to do with today’s technology. All reasonable discussions must include at least these points (and more).
The perfect example of a third world regime out of control, looks like Zimbabwe during the genocide to me, and that is only one of many of the USA’s worldwide fascist regime examples that Ryan / Obama / / biden / dubya (endless the list of war criminals) that the USA’s “democratic” laughable b.s. regime is now manifesting. A civil war will never happen in this police state until we are each of us suffering horribly from these domestic massacres. It has to start happening to the congress and administration cowards and liars, and even then, they’ll cut and run for the exits with their big incomes, super health care, guaranteed retirements, private islands and fascist regimes they’ve established worldwide. That is what it’ll take and even that probably won’t dissolve this most evil regime on the planet.
Newly joined, snide comment 3 or 4 word comment, any guess who this is?
“We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men.”
– George Orwell, January 1939
I think it’s obvious, and will be dealt with quickly.
The other possibility is Ryan realizes how he totally fucked himself taking on the Speaker job. Kinda like I felt jumping off the roof as a kid.
Yes, we need a moment of shouting.
SPEAKER: “On the question of banning the manufacture and sale of assault rifles in the United States, how votes the chamber?”
CHAMBER (as one): AYE!
Paul? Paul Ryan?
I cannot watch HBO’s weekly program Inside Sports with Bryant Gumbel (I think that is what its called). However, Saturday night while eating dinner I stumbled on it while channel surfing and left it on because they were transmitting a show by one of its non-blowhard panel members about the semi-automatic, easily and legally convertible to automatic military assault weapon that had been used at the Newton CT massacre of small children. And agai. The GOP Congress has signed the Norquist like Pledge and NRA dictat. So their only response to this is to invoke once again their fake Christianity with a granstand public moment of silent prayer.
Could be, for sure. But did you smile once you were in the air?
