Discussion: House Dems To Make Aggressive Push On Gun Control, Even If Stymied In Senate

This seems like a good thing to do. Have the legislation ready and tested.

They hope that holding debate on various gun control ideas will show the voters that they are listening, and that they would carry out their will if not for Republican obstruction.

Excellent.

And as for the NRA’s opposition, let’s see it …

They should also require all ammunition be tagged with microscopic markers so it can be traced back to its source. This can be done by adding nanoparticles to bullet materials that provide a fingerprint for the bullet.

No democracy, no justice.

Hopefully, they have run out of rubles.

This is encouraging. Making the GOP actually own their most radical positions. Why didn’t anyone think of this earlier?

My suggestion is that just like the Goopers do with repeal and replacing the ACA, do this over and over again, even attaching it to any legislation in an effort to weaken any bad bills that get sent back to the House from the Senate. Dems should stick with this as more than a one-off as a way to check some box. And they need to take on the NRA directly as a treasonous organization in cahoots with Russia and getting tRump elected thereby seen as a partisan self-dealing hate and fear mongering cabal of unsavory characters. So, no quarter. This needs to be a fight for the soul of our country, for our children and grandchildren’s sake. No one should have to grow up in a country this violent made all the more so because we fail to protect its citizens. Baby boomers sure never had to grow up with the kind of wanton gun violence like we have today.

Call this “the pursuit of happiness caucus” if you have to…because the freedumb caucus sure made a mess of things with their faux libertarian bullshit and their second amendment remedies. Remedies my ass.

Sandy Hook. Legislation drafted and dismissed. NRA was sure they had passed the point of any gun control ever passing in America. A record number of school shootings followed. Now that the NRA has been revealed as a Russian GRU resource maybe the majority of Americans can get some relief from the gun nuts.

The members of the people’s house should pass intelligent legislation and send it to the Senate. Make the 25 or Solons who are up for re-election go on the record.

So long as it doesn’t become another 376 (or whatever) votes on ACA repeal without a hope of success. (I like votes that aren’t just “symbolic”.

However, an investigation into GRU-NRA ties would be most interesting. “I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot.”

Over and over again…every time a child dies from a gunshot wound.

The least they can do is require liability insurance on every gun.

To this day I remained stunned that Flynn rose to the rank of Lieutenant General. I’ve always believed the military did a good job of weeding out the kooks with Flynn types being stuck at Lt Colonel or Colonel until they retire.

Good, do it just to drag the GOP over broken glass

Yup, get these NRA-funded GOP gun nuts on record AGAIN for the 2020 Senate races. That way Dems can campaign holding posters of sweet children and people murdered by our unhinged gun toting Americans and just say “The Republican candidate supports more of THIS!”

Eventually more and more voters can be peeled off…I hope.

Good.

Now can you make an aggressive push at Trump control please?

I support this, but there is a potential downside: the NRA is tanking financially and could die a quiet death pretty soon unless they up their fundraising, and bringing up these issues is a sure way to make the MAGAts send money. D’s should study the NRA’s condition carefully, and very quietly try to do things to hasten its demise first if it seems possible.

We did. Remember the big push after Sandy Hook?

I think it’s a damn stupid thing to do. It shores up GOP stereotypes about Democrats and guarantees them a big legislative failure in their first days as the majority. The Democrats took those additional seats because people that voted for GOP’ers in the past switched. This is a good way to make them regret that.

Good. It’s about daymn time.

To all the folks who said this was a losing fight Democrats should back off from to win swing seats, suck it. Those people had no clue what the rest of us saw. Not only is it the right thing to do but plenty of republicans are fed the f-up with gun nuts controlling the conversation and the groundswell of support was evident in the numbers showing up for Moms Demand.

Plus, we owe this to all the kids who’ve been begging us to do something and have come out in force after Parkland across the country.
