Omar remarked last week that pro-Israel advocates were pushing for “allegiance to a foreign country,” comments many heard as echoing of old anti-Semitic tropes
Socalista Rating: Accurate
Nothing to add. I’ll just leave this here.
That didn’t go well for the GOP.
The notion that any and all criticism of Isreal amounts to anti-semitism is both silly and dangerous. A healthy dialogue will never be possible when one side is considered so sacrosanct as to be above all condemnation for anything.
Any GOPers voting against the resolution must be anti-Semites. (Say it Dems).
Rep. Steve King (R-IA), who GOP leaders removed from his committees after a string of racially charged remarks, was the only member to vote “present .”
23 Republicans vote against a resolution denouncing hate. Lover of black people, Steve KKKing, abstains. All Dems support resolution. America in a nutshell.
Like a criminal president who can’t be indicted. Wrong on both counts.
Don’t be any sillier than you can help. Omar was criticized for
the insinuations in the language she used – not for the positions she took.
It was wrong for her to imply that support for a particular country meant that Congress was being forced to have dual allegiances. Her support for the Palestinians would be subject to the same criticism if that were the rule.
The fact if the matter is that humans have a soft spot for the cultures from which they come and will work to keep those bonds but that only very rarely implicates their loyalty to the country of their citizenship.
Surely you meant to say Her support for the human rights of the Palestinians…and it’s interesting you think that support for human rights would be subject to criticism. Whom by?
BTW, the U.S. does not recognize a nation state for Palestinians.
From now on, every time equivalent outrage isn’t shown when someone toots a racist dog whistle – This Mescalero will be noting the obvious prejudice and hypocrisy.
That depends on who you are talking about. The purpose was to shut her down, there can be no doubt. The repubs would have hounded her and the Democrats to death.
I am tiered of the old Democrat Party, thank God for new blood. These folks are as old as my daughter’s, I raised mine properly, and looks like others did too.
"Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) said he’d vote against the “watered down” resolution because “There’s never been a persecution of people like the Jewish people” —
Israel wins. Palestine and human rights loses to political correctness. Never thought I would use that phrase.
Are they going to like “obeisance” better?
I think Israel lost. Omar has proven her point.
So we can conclude that 28 GOPers are anti Semites.
Take it for what you think it’s worth. I’ve been critical of the accuracy of TPM’s descriptions. Here they got it right, and I want to acknowledge that.
