“I would never comment on investigations — whether we have one or not — in an open forum like this so I can’t answer one way or another,”
Until there’s evidence to the contrary, my bet is that a nascent investigation was ‘strangled in the crib’ as ex- MI6 agent and dossier author Cristopher Steele suspected. Comey is prevaricating to save his precious reputation.
Yup. And sarcastic thanks to the AP for omitting from the story something I’d have thought would be quite germane, Angus King’s response to that Comey non-answer:
The irony of your making that statement here I cannot avoid.
I’ve started to wonder what the Russians have on Comey …
and other TOP officials, as well —
I wonder about that too, and I also wonder about ‘assets’ in the employ of the NYT. But until I hear otherwise, I’m inclined simply to catalog Comey and his enablers among the ‘less there than meets the eye’ population.
That was a brilliant retort from Angus King. Had Comey or the Republicans any personal integrity, they would have hung their heads in shame.
I wish I could share your inclinations …
But my heart and nose are overruling my sense of “faith” —
The tremendous obfuscation that is in play right now, almost assures that the public will not " hear ", let alone " see " any detrimental information regarding the GOP’s involvement in this —
My feelings are based on the GOP’s actions that have already taken place… They will do ANYTHING to control and rule… they will simply try and rewrite the rules making treason a needed, therefore acceptable thing… ( for the good of the country ) –
My nose tells me that I need to take out the trash … I SMELL A RAT ! —
And it’s getting stronger fast … likely many more than one—
Rep. Maxine Waters and others were clearly pissed after the meeting ended. And it was after that when the Senate intelligence committee chair reversed himself and announced the “bipartisan” committee investigation. I suspect that some of these guys are starting to realize that Trump is going to drag them down with him when he falls, and they need to start covering themselves, at least in public.
The really sad thing is that regardless of what anyone finds out about Russian interference and the FBI’s intentional meddling in favor of the Republicans, it is not going to change the election results. Even after Trump falls, we will be left with Pence for the next four years.
Comey handled himself well under difficult circumstances.
Master of his own domain.
One step at a time … Let’s stay focused ----
I understand. I do agree that the amount of conniving, furtive, dirty politics that the GOP can indulge in, is excessive beyond the wildest dreams of Machiavelli. But I also think that they are dumb enough to believe that Trump and Putin are their useful idiots as opposed to the other way around.
I’ve been suggesting something like that since September, so it’s not just recent events. I suspect it’s more bribe than threat though. However…remember the hostage look on Chris Christie’s face? I wondered at the time if Trump’s campaign had (somehow…ha!) obtained incriminating Bridgegate material…
I personally would much rather have Pence as President. He is not the carney barker that Trump is and is more unpopular. I cannot see him winning an election for President. He dropped out of how many Presidential campaigns?
“I would never comment on investigations — whether we have one or not — in an open forum like this so I can’t answer one way or another,”
GOP sociopaths are so revolting and insulting that no words can describe it.
If there is a Hell, they will be headed there.
The allegation is that Trump is a traitor. If doesn’t get more serious than this. The allegation is not proven, but not disproved either and the Chief Justice is days from swearing him in as President. Comey should be made to come clean or be replaced immediately by a deputy who will fully inform the Congress of state of play of the FBI investigation. Is there a reasonable alternative?
Donald Trump (the third-rate Mussolini) will be violating his presidential oath from the second he takes it.
No - you are forgetting Rule No. 1 - it’s not the crime, it’s the cover up.
He can’t take the oath without violating it as he takes it.
It’s disgusting
There are times…within today’s climate …
where I hesitate to use the word …" conspiracy " —
…the FBI should let us know whether they’re making - doing that investigation or not. They’re usually inscrutable, as you saw in the public testimony in the Senate."
Inscrutable, as in “Eff you. I’m not telling. Nah. Nah.”
