Discussion: Horrific Mistake Turned Rescue Into Catastrophe

Discussion for article #235548

What a horribly written article. Which boat rammed? Was it the rescue boat that rammed the other, or the distressed vessel? Is there an editor in the house?

It appears that the smuggler boat rammed the rescue boat. There’s a simple reason. The business model is 1) buy a reeking hulk which is barely seaworthy 2) charge gullible chumps $1000 for the trip 3) give a free trip to one chump to steer 4) the smugglers DO NOT ride the boat. So, what we had was a risky high seas maneuver being performed by an unlicensed pilot. What could go wrong?

Smugglers are making $700,000 per boat. They are creating panic in Africa to get more idiots to “seek asylum”.

What is desperately needed is a cordone sanitaire just off the Libyan coast, which turns every single vessel back to Libya.

I think that it is unfair and cruel to describe desperate refugees as "chump"s and “idiots”. The poor souls were seeking safety and security. The ravaged of the world are not those in power. They are always the victims and it is not their fault that others insist on repressing them using sociopathic and genocidal means. These 850 people didn’t have much else to live for back home and they chose to brave the terror of the smuggler’s boat because they were living by their wits, not their wallets.

You clearly know nothing about this situation. Each “immigrant” loser paid between E1000 and E1500 for the trip. The smugglers take the money, fill the boat with other chumps, and launch it off. The boats are hugely overloaded. The profits, pumped up by ignorant running dogs like yourself, are huge - I’m guessing $750,000 minimum per boat. The smugglers make money by filling these idiots with scary tales. It’s a sucker’s game, and liberal losers help the smugglers by this ridiculous “compassion” which will, by the end of the summer, have killed 10,000 or more easily.

Nick,

I have taken action to prevent further abuse.

Thank you for your assistance. Outing others is not an acceptable posting approach, IMHO. So, thank you. Hopefully, that poster will return to civil comments about events, not other posters.
