It’s still relevant.

And what exactly will have changed in two weeks, Congressman Hoyer, except the calendar?

Seems a little short. I’d have expected them to try to get an extension until Jan. 15, so they’d have a couple weeks when they get back, to fashion something more long term in the new session.

Anyone know why they would only want to extend funding to Dec. 21? Are they only allowed to fund to end of the year, and not through the beginning of the next?

“The grinch who stole Christmas is the Congress. It’s real a real shame.”

Another example of why dudes like Hoyer need to step away. It’s Republicans who are about to steal Christmas. Using “Congress” as a polite synonym for Republican extremists is just unacceptably feeble.

Dec. 21st. Four days before Christmas and four days for Donald Trump to step in and work his magic.
Talk about the Grinch who might steal Christmas.

Because in Jan. Dems take control of the house and the chance of funding the wall drops to zero…

So they want one more chance to shut the government down over christmas? brilliant!

In those two weeks Trump will finally pivot, become not only presidential but also a compassionate humanitarian, and in the spirit of the season proclaim that “in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity,” he is resigning from office effective immediately.

It is a lovely, heart-warming story . . . I just wish it weren’t fiction.

I can really only imagine that they ultimately want to push it into January (a bit at a time), so that Democrats have the house and can perhaps be finagled into sharing the blame for the shutdown. (In the short term, it may be that Republicans think they can strong arm Democrats with threats of staying in session over the holiday period. I certainly hope that they are wrong on such an idea.)

So the GOP now wants to shut down our Federal Govt 4 days before Christmas?

Brilliant!

Maybe the Angry Mobster will resign as his historic Christmas present to the US?

Nah.,.

Correct messaging. Every Dem should be out there, this minute, saying what you just said. Set the narrative before the showdown. Also use “unfit to govern” as their catchphrase. This is so basic.

Thanks. I try.

It’s already zero.

McConnell can’t overcome a filibuster, can’t use reconciliation because he already used it for the tax cut - and, even if McConnell could technically use reconciliation (again, he can’t), there wouldn’t be enough time before the congressional term ends to organize a reconciliation conference anyway.

Not one peso, not one centavo for your damned wall!

OK Democratic leadership this is being tipped off from the get-go - you can see that Trump is going into a silly exaggerated wind-up … what are you going to do? what is the plan to make a fool out of Trump and beat him at his own game?
