Discussion for article #246701

I love when she brings up Obama and reminds everyone how much he has done and how important it is to improve upon his policies. You go Hillary!!

Time to stop pretending this is a “race” and move on to the general election.
No. Sanders has no chance of winning, but he never did. What he needs to do is take a page from the most successful losing campaign of my lifetime: Non-Specific Drip Robertson, 1988. While Robertson failed to win pretty much anything, his campaign fired up the evangelicals and the campaign structures helped build up the Christian Coalition, making it a force on the political scene for the next decade.

Sanders has to keep going, even though his loss is pretty much inevitable unless Clinton is hit by a scandal. Even those progressives who aren’t voting for Sanders should be supporting this.

I wasn’t implying he shouldn’t, I am just referring to his “supporters” who pretty much don’t seem to be connected to the reality of why he is running and honestly think he can win, and be viable in a general election.
His chances in the general are actually better than his chances in the Democratic election, as he matches up very well against Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, much better than Clinton. He really needs to sit down with John Kasich and lament.

I wish he never had to leave but the poor dear deserves a break, as much as I believe he could and wishes he could have another term

Total illusion. You are comparing the “current” poll numbers of one of the most attacked public figures in the past 20 years to a total unknown. TWO WEEKS of showing Bernie Sanders videos will drop him like a rock. Not to mention his support seems to come from same place as a Trump: white male voters.

He really looks like he is counting the days until the inauguration…eight years of dealing with republicans is more than enough for anyone.
First of all, they’re not “current.” They’re current. Cut the scare quotes.

Second of all, Clinton’s net favorability ratings are not going to go up. They’re bad; it isn’t outrageous at all to think that someone with 30% of the public still undecided about him could beat them. (No, Sanders is not a total unknown. About 70% of the public has made up its mind about him.) Clinton has been around for 25 years, and thus have over 90% of the public deciding on her. At least 50%, and often over, outright disapproves of her.

Some of the reasons are valid, too. She is very much a representative of Wall Street; she does get dodgy and hold out even when she is telling the truth. She spent seven years holding onto the Rose Law Firm billing records when they exonerated her; putting them out there in 1993 would have saved a few news cycles and, more to the point, would have helped her reputation for honesty greatly. She really did make the coded “super predators” claim about black criminals.

Trump likewise has a similar situation. Everyone knows about him, and most everyone hates him. His situation is only more so.
I hate grammar flames, but putting “two weeks” in all-caps is not only wrong, but it’s patronizing. You’re shouting it out, and you have no proof of this one way or another, at least vis-a-vis Trump. Obviously, plenty of attack videos will hurt anyone’s overall standing; two weeks of attack videos will hurt Clinton too, though not as much because less than 10% of the public is undecided about her (they must be living in a cave or something) against 30% for Sanders. We’re talking about attack videos from Donald Trump, who the general public despises.

You also make the frankly outright wrong assumption that, in a general election, only white male Democrats would support Sanders. (He actually doesn’t do too bad among women and Latinos, but let’s get past that.) There is no reason to think that, in the alternate universe wherein Sanders is the nominee, that Democrats who are not white males would not vote for Sanders. Your alternate universe would have blacks and Latinos voting in large numbers for Trump, which is downright ridiculous.

Being patronizing doesn’t change what I pointed out. If you prefer I’ll list it on all lower case. Bernie Sanders negatives will be driven through the roof when his statements and actions are used in a general election. Hillary Clintons numbers will not change much. You missed the he point, attacks are already at macimum for Clinton and she is holding up well. Nothing had happened to Bernie Sanders yet, don’t fool yourself. The Clinton campaign is not even touching him with a feather.

Turnout is everything, so your oversimplified analysis incorrect. Blacks and Latonis may not turn out in large numbers, and a lot of independents may vote for a trump or not vote at all.
