Trump confessed to sexual assault during the campaign. He slandered a war hero/POW in McCain. He dissed the family of another dead soldier, Humayun Khan. He questioned the allegiance of a U.S. born Federal judge solely because of his Mexican heritage. He hectored fans to commit violence at rallies. The list is endless. Yet he won despite all those “dumb mistakes”, although he personally would say none of them were dumb or mistakes in any sense of the words.
Hillary lost despite the number and severity of mistakes she committed paling in comparison to Trump’s FUBARs. Assailing her for that misses the mark. Was she supposed to be a saint? Being preferable by a magnitude of ten wasn’t good enough? Evidently it wasn’t sufficient for the Electoral College. Hard to slag her for being less than perfect when the electorate was prepared to vote for a madman.
No, I don’t think she was supposed to be a saint, although there are some who criticize her for things they wouldn’t criticize any other candidate, male or female, for. The only thing she was truly guilty of was being a Clinton (and a less lovable Clinton, at that). Her feet got held to fires that no one else would have even had raised under them.
Now, before everyone starts flamethrowing, yes, there were mistakes made in the campaign. Focusing on sure-win States to the exclusion of other States that might have been winnable and were lost might have made a difference.
But we’re here and we need to correct the past sins. We’re here and we need to hold the others to the same standards. I’m glad Gowdy signed the letter to the WH, but I would not hold my breath that anything significant will come of this. This is where we need to start holding feet to the fire.
She was far from perfect. She had the worst negatives of any Democratic Presidential nominee ever, regardless of the reasons. If she had cared about the country more than her ego and coronation, then she would not have run again after losing in 2008 and then making the “dumb mistake” of using a private email server as SoS.
Remember that despite being the overwhelming favorite, she lost the primary in 2008 agains Obama because she could not and did not run a strategic campaign then either.
Yes, Trump is a horrible person. But he beat 11 Republican primary candidates and then won the general walking away. You can’t ignore that.
P.S. Before people point out that she won the popular vote, let me remind you that does not matter. She lost the electoral college vote decisively, and she lost 30 of 50 states.
It’s more than hypocrisy. These are intentional acts by the Trumpers. We know the Trumpers like to do two things: (1) Use the perks of Federal power to grift, and (2) Talk to Russians.
Private email is a way to do both away from public scrutiny. In Kushner’s case, we know he did secret meetings with Russian banks (VEB). VTB, Sberbank, Gazprom bank and Germany’s Deutsche Bank are also places I might look for correspondence. He was/is desperate for loans.
Also keep in mind that the essence of the Trump-Russia conspiracy is that Trumpers sold out their country for a buck. They were willing to trade changes in US policies to Russia in exchange for the promise of financial incentives: TT Moscow, Rosneft sale, and financing for massive debt ridden properties like 666 5th Avenue. Trump’s prior experience as a money laundering vehicle for the Russians make these critical areas of inquiry.
i’m really getting tired of the talk of HILLLARY’s ‘mistakes’…she lost, first, because she is a woman…then COMEY did his thing…add to all this, the RUSSIANS , TRUMPf and his cabal…even SANDERS helped TRUMPf…I did not realize so many americans are so dumb…they will follow any doofus that has a tv show…if DOTUS TRUMPf has done nothing else, he has exposed the unbelievable obtuseness of so many americans; which explains why countries like KOREA and IRAN are laughing…
Let’s assume party elders, PACS, major campaign contributors, sitting Dem office holders and everyone else involved in the election knew of these faults and looming distractions going into the campaign. Wasn’t it incumbent of them to find an alternative candidate, generate enthusiasm and support for that candidate and see to it that candidate was the nominee instead of Clinton? I certainly can’t fault her for running. A citizen has that right, especially if they feel they’re qualified and have the backing of many people and access to a lot of money. Are you suggesting she was negligent or somehow unpatriotic for running? Dems had ample opportunity to recruit someone to oppose her. Where lies the blame for the lack of an alternative to Clinton?
Throw a thousand dollars on the floor and invite everyone present to lunge at it, first one grabs it it’s theirs. Are you telling me a young stud that is both fast, agile and already rich should leave it lay and allow others to grab at it?
Hillary took her shot. If you’re a Dem pol and didn’t think she was the best qualified candidate you should have done something about it when you had the chance.
what you say is true…after listening to TRUMPf campaign, its scarey to realize there are so many AMERICANS who agreed with his speeches…i’m just going to stay in my own little bubble and protect my family, as best I can, from the NAZIS and HONKIES that have surfaced…I have no idea how all ;this’ will end, but I fear it will not end well for the country.
From the comfort of the den in his house in Utah, Jason Chaffetz is calling for an investigation. He’ll also make this proposal in his role as Faux talking head.
It’s tough to run against a well known TV personality who spouts incoherence and lies at the top of his voice and is like the proverbial car wreck on the highway; you can’t turn away from it no matter how bloody and mangled the landscape is. All she had to offer was measured, reasonable, informed proposals. The Electoral College elected him, she won about 3 million more popular votes, and I for one will never get tired saying of it. When Wyoming had nearly equally influence in electing him as did California, something’s wrong.
Kushner’s not dumb like Hillary. He had the Russian embassy set up a server that could not be hacked. And they’re the best at cyber security cuz they have the best hackers.
Never forget that 11 days before the election Comey talked about her email in connection with Anthony Weiner’s emails. After that her support in crucial WI (where there was also voter suppression due to onerous voter ID laws), MI and PA dropped like a rock, and she never recovered.
“The height of hypocrisy”? Oh, Ms. Clinton, Madam Secretary… no. I’m not saying you don’t have a point, ma’am, you do, but you’re a little too close to this issue. The actual height of hypocrisy is more likely denigrating sports stars for disrespecting the flag, while at the same time committing treason against the nation. You are aware, aren’t you?, that everyone in the Lying Orange Shit-Stain’s administration knew that Mike Flynn was working for the Turks and Putin while he was serving, however briefly, as the National Security Advisor, and the only reason that they moved him out of that spot was because his treason became public knowledge. If they’d managed to keep a lid on that leak, Mr. Flynn would still be there, still working for a number of foreign countries. So, no, the e-mail thing is just another sort of typical, mild, bit of hypocrisy for this crew.
California, with 38.8 million residents, has 55 electoral votes (reflecting 53 House members, 2 senators) while Wyoming, with 584,000 residents, has three electoral votes (having been guaranteed the minimum one House member and two senators). In other words, California gets an elector for every 700,000 people; Wyoming gets one for fewer than 200,000 people.
That’s my point. And I do believe California’s electoral votes should matter more, just as any more highly populated state’s should. The Electoral College is a product of 18th century thinking, and we’ve had five presidents elected because of it. Two of the worst include dubya (who today looks like a savant) and now in a horrible category all his own, donaldfuckingturmp.
Richard M. Nixon ran in 1968 after having lost in 1960. so having once lost is hardly disqualifying. And all she lost in 2008 was the Democratic Primary, which she won, quite handily, in 2016. True enough, she lost in the electoral college, but that wasn’t her fault as much as ours… seemingly Americans are just too easily fooled by Lying Orange Shit-Stains.
And as for the e-mail server… well, Colin Powell did the exact same thing, for the exact same reasons. It was not wrong, it was not a mistake, it was a thing that is apparently often done. Given that Chelsea Manning released a great huge pile of “secure” messages, her own e-mail server was what could best be described as a great big nothing burger. No candidate in the history of this nation has ever been more thoroughly legally vetted than Ms. Clinton… from Whitewater on forward she’s been through any number of “special investigations” and the result is always a finding of no indictable offenses. Unless you’re a rabid Republican, or suffer from some other cognitive disorder, you know that Ms. Clinton is about as “clean” as a politician can be. (I can’t think of anyone in the L.O.S.S.'s administration who could survive a similar examination.)
