Any politician who wants to cut benefits or lengthen the retirement age should absolutely kiss their political career goodbye in my opinion. Retirement benefits should be increased to the point where people generally feel their basic needs will be met without help from Wall Street. The retirement age should be shortened to the point where people generally retire before their physical vigor and mental acuity diminish too far. It should be paid for the same way our government pays for everything else: by taxes and borrowing.
In a perfect world thatâs how it should be. But we have McConnell and the wing nuts to contend with.
