Discussion: Hillary Clinton Comes Out Against Keystone XL Pipeline

Discussion for article #240878

So is the President - so why was she complaining that she was trying to wait for the WH to take a stand? Am I missing something here!!

Oh for fuk’s sake She said she opposes it. Now we have to listen to endless BS about her timing and motivation? People, give it a rest already.

I think she was a little slow to step up, absolutely.

What I need to do now is research what she did re: environmental causes while she was in the Senate to see if this is pandering or consistent with her legislative history.

How does Sierra and all the rest of the environmental groups rate her, before this?

And they also, earlier, applauded her stand for arctic drilling.

As others have said, don’t know what she was waiting for, but at least this isn’t a 180 and has some grounds in her legislative history.

FINALLY!

Why would the US want the Canadian sludge being piped through the heartland, only to be offshored to the highest bidder?

That’s insane!

Last week she was asked how she felt and she said she’d been waiting for the WH to take a stand but she was getting tired of waiting and would make her announcement. Am I hallucinating but didn’t the President come out against the Keystone XL Pipeline

Good, last time she was asked about it she gave such a bullshit answer. It was like…ill make up my mind after I am elected… I told myself I could not vote for her if she kept pulling that crap. Now I am a definite maybe.

Yet she still can’t seem to make a clear statement about why the pipeline is a bad idea, calling it “a distraction.” Here, Ms. Clinton, I’ll do it for you:

The pipeline will create only a handful of permanent jobs, it won’t produce any additional energy supplies for U.S consumers, and it runs the risk of polluting the groundwater that millions of Americans rely upon for drinking and for agriculture.

How hard is that?

Yeah, you’re right - I think. Was just gonna look it up but didn’t the president gave it thumbs down about 6-8 weeks ago?

World pricing has overtaken the issue, and the industry in Alberta Canada has moved on.

If you read the energy press, particularly Canadian sources, it’s clear that most companies working out of Western Canada in the energy sector have already switched or are already deeply engaged in switching over towards so-called conventional sources.

The few companies still most heavily invested and involved in the tar sands “upgrader” project have already moved their output towards different markets and transport options. What I get from reading the Canadian energy press out of Alberta in particular is that the new social democratic provincial government elected this spring has already moved their priorities elsewhere than pushing for completion of the Keystone project.

It’s not even clear that the one Canadian-based corporation most invested in the project, TransCanada Pipelines, has the project anywhere close to their top priorities.

What’s left is almost completely about the amount of air remaining in the Keystone project as a political pigskin.

Good move. She’ll get hammered for this by the Kochtopus oil and extractive industry and its minions across the country, and they’re good enemies to have.

Her position was finally poll tested?

Well, he vetoed the bill way back in the early spring, so…yeah.

About freaking time…

**.

The US gets zero oil, goes not even get taxes from the trans-shipping. Water for 7 or 8 States gets undrinkable and could not even be used for agriculture. Foreign corporations get the $$$ while the US taxpayers get the shaft with the Mega Super Fund Site that is 1000% guaranteed to come about.

That’s one of her fucking problems. She is too careful about every thing. I cannot stand the lecturing monotone sound of her voice. I wish she didn’t come off as so unlikeable.

Clinton’s handling of the misleading impact statement while she ran State was not her finest hour. Glad she’s changed her tune, whatever the reason.
