Discussion: Hillary Clinton Calls SCOTUS's Hobby Lobby Ruling 'Deeply Disturbing'

Discussion for article #224536

Looks like five members of SCOTUS have climbing aboard the outreach clown car.

Best comment I have seen all day refers to the Court as SCROTUS.

Guess your husband should not have signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act back in 1993.

“At that point, there were legitimate cases of discrimination against religions,”

Bullshit.

Actually, its not bullshit. Republicans have repeatedly found new and inventive ways to discriminate against Muslims.

Thanks to capibastone scalito, long-dong thomas, and wingman kennedy. Also, john, the tool, roberts.

That would have been a really stupid move at the time, since there were only three dissenting votes.

“…because her employer doesn’t believe she should use birth control…”

So Hobby Lobby is busy reducing the prices of their merchandise?

Oh, I see. I get to keep giving them the same amount of money to cover “expenses”. That sounds like conservative’s typical “market forces” bologna.

I wonder how Hobby Lobby feels about Viagra for unmarried men? My guess is they have no problem with it.

Same was said about DOMA.

You are painting with a way too large a brush. There is a reason I (and many others) became early backers of candidate Obama, because there not having a huge amount of confidence in Clinton’s judgement. Of course she will be a damn sight better than almost any conceivable GOP candidate, but I will be waiting to see if there is a better alternative to Clinton before I jump on any band wagons.

The law was signed by Clinton. In the 1990s. Well before 9/11 and the anti-Muslim hysteria.
You people keep telling me there’s a difference between Republicans and Democrats, and now YOU’RE confused?

The bombing of the World Trade Center in NYC happened in 1993.

If anyone would know the answer to that, it would certainly be you.
Unless you aren’t counting the ones you deleted ?

LOL.

I know how important it is for you to have the last word Sweet Pea so it’s all yours.

Bore us to tears please!

Are you too young to remember the days of David Duke in the early '90’s?? People who lived in suburban neighborhoods afraid of people of color/ otherness put HUGE blue David Duke signs up in their yards. Rush Limbaugh was loud and strong long before 9/11. In fact, there were major domestic terrorist bombings in the USA years before 9/11. Check out this radical right wing site that details the history: http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages/americanattacks.htm

Bill Clinton’s bill was not about turning the country into a Christian theocracy. It was about doing his part to sustain democracy in the face of a lot of xenophobic, paranoid vitriole against minority religions in this country.

Hillary was smart to voice this dismay about the Hobby Lobby ruling early and unequivocally today. She needs to continue to take the lead on this – without hesitation-- if she wants to show the country her meddle. It’s time to take on extremists in our own country. This could be a unifying event for the country.
