We’ve seen a lot of hateful rhetoric from the GOP. But the idea that we’d turn away refugees because of religion is a new low. -H
I guess she hasn’t read up on what this country did during WWII to the Jews.

Absolutely Astro!
This is not a new low, the Federal or any State Government applying a religious test for any reason is unconstitutional. A candidate for any public office suggesting such disqualifies themselves for said office and if they are an elected official they should be impeached for breaking the oath they took to uphold the constitution.
Especially after both cruz and jeb went on record praising Syrian refugees coming to to the US before the Paris attack.
Another thing people should be aware of is that the 1980 refugee legislation was created and passed during the Raygun presidency…
Apparently there is never a bad time to attack Obama, no matter what he does, no matter how it affects others, no matter how stupid it sounds, and, most certainly, no matter how un-American it is. So, we have governors keeping their citizens from getting help with medical bills, we have governors keeping orphans from finding safe places to live, we find governors working to keep wages below the poverty level, etc. And, then there is Congress…
What the hell is she talking about? This is par for the course for the republican party. They acted the same way toward the children trying to come in from Mexico. Being nativist and hating the “other” is a party plank.
I’d like to dip this particular statement in gold and have it framed and mounted in an extremely visible place of honor, please.
I disagree the the underlying cause is Muslim ideology.
These twenty-year-olds would have been violent Christians if they had been born in Central Africa, or followed the atheist Pol Pot if they lived in Cambodia. The issue isn’t the particular ideology, it is the socioeconomic situation that leads kids to join violent causes. They are not motivated by the doctrines of the religion (or all its followers would do so). Instead they use it a justification for lashing out, killing others out of frustration and anger at the lack of security in the wake of the wars in their area.
I realize that your narrative is dominant in the media, but I wonder, do you have any actual evidence about core motivation? I suggest you read this article and decide whether these actions are “forced” by Islam: http://www.thenation.com/article/what-i-discovered-from-interviewing-isis-prisoners/
Damn straight! Peaches are leading us all straight to Jahannam!
Oh, was that not what you meant? It was the most logical opinion I could glean.
True and since fear and loathing is all they got you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be more and more. Just as with 9/11 for years and Benghazi every other word for a couple of years, we’ll be hearing “About Paris” for years to come.
“That’s not American. That’s not who we are.” -- President Obama, demonstrating leadership
But unfortunately, deep down inside we know his contention at this point is aspirational, not factual. For a disturbingly large and growing segment of the population, that’s precisely who we are. We are bigots. We are cowards. We are blinded by propaganda and manipulated by hate, fear, and envy. As our pie shrinks, we’ll be increasingly at each others’ throats while the fat cats make off with the entire goddamned bakery right under our noses. We are weak, we are malleable, and we are woefully divided. And we are susceptible to influences we don’t even know exist.
@emilianoelmexicano, I was moved by your optimism in another thread, imploring progressive writers to instill hope. But as we rush full speed into more slaughter and blowback, as we go one more time around this vicious cycle of depravity and blood lust, creating sworn enemies faster than we can possibly kill them, as we hear cries to shut down mosques and turn away babies at our border fleeing the disaster we in fact wrought, with Donald Trump in the lead once more, it’s hard to be optimistic.
Hillary has more balls than the entire Republican field including Carly Fiorina. What a bunch of bed wetting cowards
Fine. I have come around, grudgingly because the Clintons aren’t perfect, but she just cemented my vote for her. But Wall Street bias will still be a concern… Warren for Vice?
Nicely stated. It is hard to be optimistic considering america’s myopic view of pretty much everything “foreign.” And if Trump’s message really starts to resonate what will Team Hillary do? This could get interesting.
That is true. Of course that is true. However, it should be noted that Islam is, currently, used to justify slavery, intolerance, and rape in the world today by whole states and pseudo states. Christianity is not used, today, for this, to the same degree. I am not suggesting that we discriminate against Muslims. I am only saying that we need to stop pretending that Islam is a religion of peace, when it demonstrably is not.
In short, I feel perfectly justified in attacking Islam. However, attacking Muslims or discriminating against them, is wrong. I feel the same about Christianity. Just because my christian friends are clearly mentally ill, doesn’t mean I don’t love them.
You don’t really know much about Islam other than what you have been told by our media do you? If you actually spent time learning instead of just listening to the bullshit on the air you would realize that ISIS’s Islamic beliefs are to Islam as the KKK’s Christian beliefs are to Christianity. In short ISIS is pushing a comic book version of Islam for young adult dummies they are trying to convince to kill others and themselves. The leaders of ISIS are politicians doing what politicians always do with religion, exploit it for their own power. I could name some Christian politicians who do the same thing, but enough about Mike Huckabee and the family research council.
From someone who will be forced to vote for you, you are on the wrong side of this issue, Sweetheart.
No Syrians will vote, so forget them.
Comparing ISIS to the KKK is proper. But this type of radical Sunni Islam is promoted by Saudi Arabia. They use their vast oil wealth to fund schools throughout the Muslim world to preach an ideology of misogyny and hate. To say, “it’s only a few radicals” is nonsense and bellied by the significant power that the radicals have.
Hillary Clinton Calls GOP's Anti-Refugee Brouhaha 'A New Low'
Oh, don’t underestimate them, Sec. Clinton. They can, and will, go lower. With the Republicans, you have to look under the snake’s belly in the wagon rut to find their starting point.

Islam preaches violence no less so than the old testament in the bible. All religions suck.
Bravo!
Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction.
____________Blaise Pascal
The bloody road of most religions is littered with the remains of countless bodies, the corpses of those who died because of disputes by men over who has the best imaginary friend in the sky and the strongest cult to back up that ‘belief.’
