All I’ve got to say: Joe Biden 2016!
Actually that is not at all clear when she puts her foot in the mouth and is factually wrong about the NPT Treaty and the fact that does, by international accord, have the very right she claims Iran doesn’t have. Her sloppy bellicose rhetoric is not only wrong, but simply to placate the insane “mad Mullah” policies towards Iran to placate the rabid right and Israeli hawks.
Bill must have had a word with Hill, she shit the bed way too early in the cycle, and it won’t be left alone by the GOP.
She can in fact read, and has rather a lot of international experience. The assumption that she doesn’t know what’s in the treaty is strained. But if you see her as an ignorant, hateful, slavering warmonger, so be it… yet it doesn’t, to my mind, encourage a balanced reading of her words.
I also happen to think that it is a big issue if Iran gets hold of nuclear weapons, since it has ties to extremely dubious groups and contains very dangerous extremist elements. One need not be a Netanyahu hawk to want Iran kept away from nukes.
I also reacted too soon before seeing the actual quote. The media really is pathetic in their quest for a horserace. I do think that Hillary needs to be mindful of them and choose her words carefully. I also think Ezra Klein and Chris Matthews, who also said that Rand is a threat, sound really stupid. The only young people who will vote for Rand are Libertarians. Just like they voted for his batshit father. Young Democrats are not going to vote for someone who they know will lose big to Hillary. His stance on drones won’t carry him to victory when you look at the rest of what he’s saying. We all saw how fast Cory Booker finally ran away. He should never have allowed himself to be any where near that wig headed fraud.
I do get tired of headlines that don’t relate to the story.
Et tu, Hillarius!
I have no doubt in my mind that young people will run far away from Rand Paul as soon as he has an actual Democratic opponent to run against. Much of the silliness that comes out of his mouth can be quite easily refuted. The problem is that he’s never challenged except from the right. I suspect that’s because Democrats would like him to keep talking. Just today he said he doesn’t believe a civilization can endure as long as abortion is legal. There are literally only two issues on which young people might find themselves in agreement with Paul-drones and weed. I have more faith in the young than to believe they’d sign away the rest of their rights just to get high.
We all did.
Those of us defending.
Those of us bashing.
If HRC grasps the theme of the MSM-controversy-contagion at this early stage?
It might afford her and subsequent campaign team a luxury.
One of knowing full-well that any scrap of context will be warped into clickbait.
Look at the length and depth of discussion on the thread from this morning’s article.
Healthy? Yes. Necessary? Not on your life.
Everyone of us on this site-- who visit/comment regularly-- got sucked into exactly what the MSM desired:
Gnashing of teeth! Rending of garments! Clutching of pearls!
Everybody? Chill.
Today was an opening salvo on our collective sanity.
An unending drumbeat-- sure to last until the first Wednesday in November 2016.
Sorry. But that looks to be the truth.

Especially since the right to get high is coming-- even if Sen Poodlerug vanished from the planet today.

“The assumption that she doesn’t know what’s in the treaty is strained.”
No, the assumption is that she is an unbalanced hawk when it comes to Iran, which is what passes for conventional wisdom in side the beltway. That (as noted elsewhere today) her hawkish stances towards Iran actually put at risk negotiated settlements about Iranian nuclear inspections is why it matters. Not to mention the decades old, wholly counterproductive posture towards Iran.
Also, please continue to swing wildly at that straw man instead of me while you are at. Having spent a bit of time in multiple one-on-one conversations with Iranian experts, I find it troubling that someone who served as SoS and is running for POTUS is still stuck in posture towards Iran better suited to the dustbin of history instead of the second decade of the 21st century.
A fact of life now.
Headline writers rarely confer with the authors of the content.
They have but one goal-- revenue generation.
Life’s blood of online journalism.
Headline writers?
Are the equivalent of long-snappers in the NFL.
Gotta’ have a good one-- or your team will suck.

I think that applies to print journalism as well.
And you need to read what she actually said
Just read an excellent book, The Girls of Atomic City, by Denise Kiernan. It’s about the US’ Manhattan Project to develop an atomic bomb during WW2; specifically focusing on Oak Ridge, Tennessee, a massive complex designed to enrich the uranium needed for the weapon.
In nearly two years of operating around the clock, 7 days a week, this huge operation, employing nearly 45,000 workers and using more electricity than Manhattan itself, was able to produce enough weapons-grade uranium for one bomb – Hiroshima’s. It was dropped as an untested design, because the wartime resources of the USA couldn’t produce enough enriched uranium to “waste” on a test.
(The Trinity site test in July 1945 used plutonium in a design that was dropped on Nagasaki. Had Japan not surrendered when it did, the US had enough weapons-grade plutonium on-hand for one more bomb.)
Therefore, the line to weapons-grade uranium material is not “easily crossed in the enrichment process”, perhaps even with 190,000 centrifuges.
Iran is only thinly veiling its pursuit of nuclear weapons. The comparison to 1945 is of only limited value, since the technology for uranium enrichment has evolved dramatically since that time. 190,000 centrifuges is deeply suspicious as part of a purely civil program.
What aggressive wars has Iran/Persia started in at least 200 years?
To what extremely dubious groups and very dangerous extremist elements do you refer? Hezbollah? Hezbollah was created in 1982-3 to defend the Shia Muslims in Lebanon in the aftermath of the Sharon-led Israeli invasion of that country. The US and France sent troops and warships to Beirut to protect Western interests from the factional violence unleashed by the continuing Israeli invasion. It was in this context that Hezbollah suicide attacks against the American and French barracks in Beirut occurred. Well over 200 American marines died attempting to repair what Likudniks broke.
It seems that you are projecting onto Iran features that pertain to modern Israel: “extremely dubious groups” and “very dangerous extremist elements” – some of whom can be found in the government’s ruling coalition. And don’t forget that Israeli has over 400 nuclear weapons and the capability of delivering them. Very dangerous indeed.
You describe Hillary as “an unbalanced hawk” on Iran, suggesting she is fixated to the point of mental instability, yet you say I’m swinging at a straw man in saying that you see her as a hateful warmonger. If you don’t wish to be taken as staking extreme positions, perhaps you shouldn’t use such extreme language? There’s more than enough room to express policy critiques – even harsh ones – without branding her a dangerous, trigger-happy ignoramus. If I mistake the nature of your hostility to Clinton, then I regret misrepresenting your views. But I came by my reading honestly: it’s how you are coming across.
I simply do not see the chasm between Obama’s position and Hillary’s that you do. Obama, certainly, has never suggested that Iran is trustworthy, or that it presents no danger to the region. There are no indications that her tenure as SoS was marked with violent disagreement between her and the President, yet you make it sound as if Obama had a virtual Rumsfeld clone in his cabinet.
As I recall from other discussions, we have agreed on other issues in the past. But clearly, we are not going to agree on this. If Hillary becomes president, we’ll find out what she does.
Wrong. There is no actual evidence they are pursuing nuclear weapons at all, despite all the hyperbolic rhetoric about it.
You should read Manufactured Crisis: The Untold Story of the Iran Nuclear Scare if you can.
