True leadership would be for the Elkhorn coach to invite the team they offended —and their families— to a special picnic and a new game that was strictly a “friendly”. If done right, with support and attendance from the townspeople, it could be a very meaningful example of contrition and of reaching out, something ALL the players would remember the rest of their lives.

I’m a glass half full woman and still believe it is largely a great country with so many possibilities and goodness at it core… We can blame politicians for the inertia we’re experiencing but there is much good, solid small D democratic work being done on the state level which is in fact keeping America great.

I’m sure it was a shock to those kids hearing that racist chant for the first time. I hope they use it as motivation and rise above it.
In the meantime, the racists ought to be identified and suspended. I’m certain they won’t be thrown to the ground…as that only seems to happen to minorities

In fact, TIME magazine nailed what you just said by featuring a special edition called “America’s Multiracial Future” in October 1993. NEWSWEEK (The same month!) had a special edition called “What Colour is Black?” There was a fraction of the angst that would have occurred in this climate we are living in.
I attribute the bulk of this racism and xenophobia to mass media (FOX/TalkRadio/MSM)
(a) misdirection of feelings and
(b) tried and proven/tested methods of communication geared to exacerbating difference.
Nearly everyone knows this. But knowing something does not remove the emotional and cultural reasons that people still engage in the derp.

That’s the point. Hurt someone out of your own sense of helplessness and anger, and really, what’s a high school kid got be angry about. We don’t know if there were both boys and girls involved in yelling at the players, but they’re the kids who are getting ready to be angry trump supporters.

What a disgraceful, petty, small world that Republican assholes are leaving to their demon spawn children.
We just had to sign an “adult code of conduct” waiver to enroll our son in coach-pitch baseball. I’d be happy to email Rump 2016 a copy because his own supporters at his own rallies obviously couldn’t live up to it.
We baseball parents are contractually forbidden from yelling, swearing, taunting or belittling the umpires, coaches, players or other parents. We can’t show up drunk or high to games or practices. We are not permitted to question any coaching decision within 24 hours after a game.
It’s really hard to describe how disheartening it is to learn that basic common sense must be put in writing like this. It’s also a relief to see the organization recognize the problem and try to head it off proactively. Maybe Daddy Rump should’ve let little Donny play ball.

I believe to my core that the far greater majority of people in this country are good hearted, kind people. Regardless of whether left or right, we love our families, our kids, our friends and want a better life for those around us.
The troubled economy of the last 10 years is an immediate and future threat to many people as they’ve seen their home, savings, and job opportunities threaten. There are too many (not a majority) that swim in anger and fear when these things happen and look to others to blame… racism, bigotry, and whatever other 'isms you want to bring forth. So for a narcissistic sociopath like Trump, this is a fertile environment to raise up the mobs of angry hateful people who want to blame everyone else for their problems.
These people are loud, but they are not who we are as a whole. They never will be.
