Discussion for article #225758
The NLRB counsel’s decision in the McDonalds’ cases is a step in the right direction, as is the new executive order for federal contractors.
Taking back our country.
One spat(ula) at a time.

The McD corporation basically dictates everything to local franchise owners. If they mandate a “Dollar Menu” they can’t then deny responsibility for the low pay and lousy conditions of the workers.
Nailed it. If we can’t stop them from getting bad meat from China (because the FDA, like many agencies, is a corporate-owned puppet), we can definitely try to make them fork over some of that profit to their low-wage workers.
Irony Alert!
From the body of the article: “More and more, the kind of work Americans do is separated from the companies that benefit from it, through layers of contingency, subcontracting, freelancing and franchising.”
At the very bottom of the article:
“Seth D. Michaels is a freelance writer in Washington, D.C.”
Freelance is great, kind of. =)
Oh dear. Is it wrong that I am smiling?
Macy’s is experiencing employees demanding bargaining units while media also ran Gannett, famous for USA Today and wrecking unions at small town newspapers, just saw a new bargaining unit voted in at it’s DC flagship television station…
McDonalds and Walmart are the prime targets, get these heartless giants in line and lots of good things will follow.
Either of these mega-corps could literally afford to do the right thing, they just choose to hold their workers down and to sell shit products. If corporations are people, then these two are terrible people.
Stay out of both places for your own health and the health of the nation.
The story is good but what a terribly worded headline
I am smiling too. As the daughter of a union steward who fought fiercely on behalf of his co-workers for reasonable contracts and working conditions, I am happy with every small victory. While today’s news out of Wisconsin isn’t good, I am hopeful that this decision will have long-term, positive benefits for employees.
You Deserve A Monetary Award Today From McDonalds.
So since 2012, over 2 and a half years, 43 out of 181 cases had merit, about 24%? That doesn’t really seem too bad for a mega-employer like McDonalds.
He may be overestimating impact.
McD’s are control freaks with their franchisees, in many cases owning the stores, and in one case telling a franchisee to pay their employees less.
Franchise companies with a greater distance from their franchise holders may very well not be at risk here.
