Discussion for article #243024
It could have the practical effect of keeping refugees out of the United States entirely.
Which of course is exactly what Republicans want. And if any pass through the gauntlet of approval, since them to internment camps.
Actually, until I read this, I had an incorrect opinion of how easily refugees could enter the country.
As a result, I am now much more concerned with people having waived travel visas entering from other countries. This is where we should place our emphasis, rather than on people who need to 2= years to qualify.
Let me get this straight.
We destabilize the Middle East by going into an unnecessary war with Iraq, and by committing to removing Assad, creating a wave of migrants.
The GOP then being the Baddest Asses in the world cower now behind some threat of terror they inflame.
God was correct when he told us not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. I.E. we decide what is right and wrong.
Almost the same wording is being used by opponents of refugees from Syrian war as they were with the Jewish refugees from Germany during and after WWII. Ugliness abounds.
The bill would require that the heads of the FBI, Homeland Security Department and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence certify that each refugee being admitted would not pose a threat.
Because we want those heads spending their time reviewing 10,000 individual case files rather than running those vital operations. Does anyone with half a brain believe Republicans can govern?
Yes, there are many means of obtaining approved access to the US which are much easier than via refugee status.
And I am sure that Daesh has plenty of people who recognize this, unlike our elected representatives.
Unfortunately, Daesh also knows that if they can make it look like even one refugee anywhere was involved in an attack that our “leaders” will overreact, painting all refugees with the same brush despite it all, further victimizing them and more importantly making it obvious to those who might try to flee ISIS rather than stay and pick a side that if they flee they will be unwelcome anywhere else in the world. ISIS feeds on despair and hopelessness.
It would be great if we were able to elect leaders who would not play directly into the hands of terrorists. Terrorism aims to have an effect far larger than the actual threat, capitalizing on human fear instincts to make us do irrational and self-damaging things. What hope do we have when one of the two major parties in this country stokes irrational fears rather than encouraging calm and rational action?
