Discussion: Here's The Obstruction Case Against President Trump

Mark my words…the Republican congress will do nothing about obstruction. The only way the GOP makes a move against Trump is if the things he is trying to hide by obstructing gets out in the open and it is so bad, they can’t ignore it. Even then, probably anything short of iron-clad proof of treason (probably requiring video) won’t be enough. I know we are all impatient and want Mueller to bring charges, but I wonder whether it might be best, if this thing drags out until after the next election, when the Dems hand should be stronger.

I wish every time Trump says “No collusion,” the press would say in a chorus, “What about obstruction?”

I would amend that to “Then why the obstruction?”

Give it ten months.

Even fruit flies have a longer lifespan than this GOP majority…

What if we just combine the two words into one? Lessee collusion, obstruction… oblusion, collustruction…

Corruption.

That’ll do.

What are the chances of conspiracy to obstruct charges or the use of RICO against some of the Republicans in Congress and others who have done and continue to do a lot to try to derail the Mueller investigation? I know it’s a long shot…but, it sure would be sweet.

You want to listen to @irasdad and others who predict that Rs will be forced into action they otherwise wouldn’t be inclined to take when they see the House flip to Dems and the reason can be traced back to PuPPet. I’d also add that it was 19 months between the time Nixon was inaugurated and the time he was forced to resign. We’re only 12 months in and on a fast track at that.

Is serious consideration of impeachment fair? I think the answer is yes. The evidence is now quite strong that Donald Trump committed obstruction of justice. Many legal scholars believe a sitting president cannot be charged with a crime. So the proper remedy for a president credibly accused of obstructing justice is impeachment.

For one thing, everyone agrees that Trump has the legal right to fire Mueller.

That is absolutely NOT something that everyone agrees to. Trump may have the power to fire Mueller, the same way that (as Josh wrote) I have the power to burn some incriminating papers in my fireplace, but having the power to do something does not give you the legal right to do so.

If you were a saint or had the patience of Jobe, the relentless list of malfeasance, chicanery dishonestty, dirty tricks…lying …would be an incredible test …difficult to deal with.Americans have seldom had to live under this type of calcuated upheaval…it is difficult to breath under the smothering ignorance of this brutal administration.Hoping for a short term merciful end.

Trump is hemorrhaging support among the American people, and now more than 40 percent of them think it’s time to start the process to impeach him, a new poll finds. The number is higher than the percentage of Americans who said they planned to vote for the president in the 2020 election.

41 percent of Americans believe there is enough reason for Congress to hold impeachment hearings, even before the conclusion of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. The poll found that 70 percent of Democrats, 40 percent of independents and even 7 percent of Republicans are in favor of the hearings.

I wonder how many of the House/Senate Goopers who have culpability (either tied to Trump directly or for other things for which the Russians have evidence from the RNC email hack) might change their tune after the mid-terms if they had a guarantee that if the Dems got Trump’s and possible Pence’s scalp in exchange for letting the other stuff slide…

Does Yates firing not factor in at all?

I agree that this Congress will do nothing about obstruction. That said, I think if Trump’s poll numbers drop to around 50% or below with Republicans, he’s toast. They will then make some moves to rid themselves of him. That’s the only thing Republicans care about. If his poll numbers with Republican stay above 80%, they will do nothing no matter what is made public.
Added: The reason they are discrediting Mueller and the FBI is to give themselves cover for ignoring anything they may indict him on if he stays popular within his party.

A merciful end for us is desirable, for Trump with all his collaborators and enablers, which includes every Republican member of Congress, a painful and miserable ending would be just and satisfying.

Agreed on obstruction, the GOP have lobbed enough smoke grenades to obfuscate and ignore any findings on that front. Doesn’t stop Mueller from indicting and arresting other team members though, which obviously is the kind of pressure he needs to apply.

I think Nunes and his clowns know that something really bad is coming and soon - not necessarily high treason, but probably something financial: large-scale fraud or money laundering for hostile foreign actors like drug cartels, Russian crime syndicates, maybe even Islamic terrorists - something that they know full well would cause even the large swaths of the MAGA base to abandon their support.

Or the piss tape.

That would just be a drop in the bucket, I think…
