Discussion for article #241754
You mean no one said" Im really really rich, I know how to make a deal" or Iâll build the greatest wasll this country has ever seen, better than the great wall of China, they did it why canât we? " My policy is to bomb Iran into submission and they will have no nuclear aspirations after that".
Nice summary, Sally. Thank you.
Democratic Debate = Rational debate among adults on substantive polices.
Republican Debate = Reality-Show Shout-Fest about whose dick is bigger.
Unfortunately, the majority of American voters are too lazy and/or stupid to realize which one is more important.
They want ENTERTAINMENT not INFORMATION.
It would be interesting to see a mashup between the Republican and Democratic debates. It would look like Phd candidates vs kindergardeners. The degree of real substance and actually caring about the people of America and the planet gave me some hope. I am still for Bernie but Hillaryâs performance made me feel more comfortable with her if she is the eventual nominee. Bernie helped himself and Hillary when he said he didnât give a damn about the emails. I feel like this debate put this whole issue to bed. Hillary made a mistake and admits it. So let us move on to things that actually matter.
Iâve posted this cartoon before on this Black Lives Matter versus All Lives Matter controversy. I wonât post it again, but it demonstrates the Black Lives Matter point so efficiently.
Edit to add:
A year ago, I was against Hillary. Too much baggage I thought. I changed my mind after considering her Republican competition and her Democratic rivals. She can win and govern. No other Democratic contender can. Sure, I loves me some Bernie, he has great ideas. He makes me feel warm and fuzzy when he explains whatâs wrong and whatâs needed. But, I know the reality of our political system. He canât win. If he did, he couldnât change anything. You think we have gridlock now, a Sanderâs presidency will be the epitome of gridlock. Heâs an independent with a dismal legislative record. Heâd have to fight against both corporate owned Democrats and Republicans. Our country is going to continue our current direction, they will allow Hillary to win, sheâs better than any Republican. Remember what George Carlin said about our political system in his âownersâ skit. He was pretty much spot on. The only hope our country has of reverting back to a democracy is if we have an unexpected, fast, vicious, global stock market and derivative collapse. With no bailouts. I doubt with our global debt situation, anyone could do massive bailouts anyway. If this happened shortly before the election, Bernie could then win and change things. The elite would be powerless to stop him. Their influence would be charred and in the ashcan. Then, we can do what Iceland did; jail some bankers and slowly build a better democracy for all.
I like Bernie. I love Joe. But I think that Hillary is the one who can show America just how stupid the GOP is. Not because she is a better person, but because she has more experience. Iâm not talking political or governing experience. Iâm talking about experience at being heckled, badgered, disrespected, attacked, and constantly harrassed . She has an organization that has build into it a defence from those attacks. I just donât think sweet Bernie and Joe know how to fight dirty. And unlike the GOP, I think Hill et al. not only know how to fight dirty, I think they know how to do it legally, smartly, and strategically.
Just as Sanders has affected the Democratic field, so has Trump affected the GOP. Trump has driven the GOPers to the extremes. He has pushed them into untenable positions. The whole GOP is fighting dirty, but blindly and with no regard for the consequences.
Hill is our best choice because she has the tough skin and chutspah (sp), but especially because she has the most experienced and effective team to not only strike back, but to pre-emptively strike, as she did last night.
And letâs not forget who her chief advisor is.
As for her âwinningâ the debateâŚfew things help you excell more than winning and I think she senses a âwinâ over Benghazi, which gave her renewed confidence. Itâs almost as though the GOP has been pushing her against the ropes and now sheâs back.
Aside: does anyone else think she has been getting some acting lessons? She seems less wooden and rehearsed.
[excuse typos, my internal spell check isnât functioning properly this am.)
sorry, iâve just never understood the criticism of sanders being âdefensiveâ re blm⌠he stated a friggin fact; he can hardly be responsible for blmâs ignorance of his past history.
itâs been interesting reading/watching the wdc mediaâs reactions; almost uniformly in support of what an awesome job clinton did; while destroying sanders. which is exactly contrary to the focus groupsâ opinions that sanders prevailed.
hell, meeka has been spinning the email comment as directed at clinton and not at the media. itâs clear who the status quo â and favored â democratic candidate is. they are terrified by the success of sanders ('he said ârevolution!â âhe made fun of billionaires!â- chris matthews).
I think theyâd prefer entertaining information. Thatâs why it gets big coverage when you get zingers from Clinton.
Hillary did a great job. She has loads of experience, is very genuine, and most of all, she is intelligent and capable. She can DO the job. Nobody on the other side even comes close. We need a Democrat in the White House - the country does better and the Supreme Court must be protected.
This reminds me of the Eye on Springfield bit on the Simpsons that made Homer say, âWowâŚinfotainment.â
I was impressed by everyone, even Anderson (but, not DonâŚ).
When his career finally ends do you think heâll wonder if a black hole was responsible?
Of course sheâs been coached on how to speak, how to gesture, how to laugh, et cetera. Thatâs a given. I just wish somebody would tell her to stop nodding her head so much. One or two nods is all thatâs necessary, like a normal person would do. She looks like a bobblehead when she keeps nodding. As an example, look at the online clip of when Sanders rails against those who keep beating the dead horse of Clintonâs emails.
For the record, I have nothing against Ms. Clinton, but this tic of hers makes it very difficult for me to watch her. I donât recall her doing this in the 2008 campaign.
Eh, they all have something.
Can you imagine how tough it must have been to sit there perfectly still with a camera on you through the entire Star Spangled Banner? Ugh.
Really great article. Thank you for it.
I think what you point out is key. Democratic candidates are being shaped by their constituents in a positive direction, and unlike their Republican counterparts, largely being thoughtful non-reactionary human beings, they consider their criticsâ opinions and are willing to modify their own when the criticism happens to be right.
I wonder if Big Dog will be her âchief advisorâ? Anyway, with Hillary you are getting essentially the third Clinton term which might help her win some white male votes.
Sometimes âstating a factâ isnât sufficient. Otherwise Jeopardy champions would make the best leaders and politicians.
My family shares this non Parkinson genetic trait and, as a consequence, I find it comforting and reassuring, strange how diverse we humans are, huh.
As much as Bernie may be tilting Hillary to the left, letâs not forget the influence Elizabeth Warren and the Occupy movement has had on the conversation, too.
If weâre seeing a resurgence of economic populism on the left, itâs because Sanders, Warren, and Occupy have been able to articulate the way middle-class Americans feel about the deck being stacked against them, as well as to clearly highlight the cause.
Occupy succeeded by raising awareness; Senator Warren is succeeding with her gift of expressing the problem and her proposed solutions in perfectly plain-spoken, accessible language, and Bernie is succeeding by tapping into the Leftâs enthusiasm on the campaign trail.
Itâs going to be hard to be a DLC/Third Way-style Democrat; and these days, thatâs probably a good thing. Thanks to Occupy, Warren and Sanders, weâre seeing a wave of populism that might have a good chance at addressing the excesses in our economy.
