Discussion: Hatch Signals Openness To Lame Duck Confirmation Of Garland

Discussion for article #247484

It’s now or never, Orrin. If you wait until November we’ll use this every day of the election season. The Democrats will take the White House and the Senate. Liberals will be emboldened and will refuse this consensus choice. We’ll have Larry Lessig or Elizabeth Warren on the court instead. Sounds like a great strategy for the Democrats. I’m glad Mr. Hatch is on board.

Do you job and consider the nominee of this twice elected President. Who was elected for a full 8 yeas, not your 3/5ths of a term bullshit.

Yeah, blame Obama for the Senate’s do-nothingness.

That surely will work…

“He is a good man, but he shouldn’t be brought up tin this toxic environment,”

You mean the toxic environment you and your obstructionist brethren engineered from day one of the Obama administration?

I can see the R’s accepting their victory in getting another conservative who doesn’t beleive in the bill of rights on the court and cementing control for another 20 years.
Obama got played.
Hold out during election and then approve in lame duck session.
I certainly hope that the nomination is withdrawn by October.

First the signals, then maybe a beer summit, then one-on-one talks over dinner at the White House with Senate leadership, of which Hatch is not one, then a look at the tea leaves, then surrender…

if Republicans can actually read, as you allude by claiming you need to read his previous decisions, then please start with the Constitution…

Huh?

“… shouldn’t be brought up in this toxic environment”. Jesus H Christ…it’s YOUR EFFING TOXIC ENVIRONMENT!!! Our president has been the opposite of toxic. He is his normal respectful and presidential self and following his constitutional duty! I just want to puke every time these liars open their effing mouths.

Translation: we will confirm this nominee because we don’t want any nominee that president Clinton or Trump would nominate.

no shit they would confirm in the lame duck.

Obama will lose a lot of power as a political enemy after November. Why would they hand an early victory to a new democratic president?

So the GOP wants to gamble on the outcome of the election but have Barack and Garland save them from themselves if Hillary wins. Priceless. Chances of Barack and Garland cooperating with that scenario? Zero.

Someone should ask him, point-blank, if his chances of being confirmed in a lame-duck session would change depending on whether a Republican or Democrat were elected.

I mean, we know the answer, but we should get him on record.

Senate ® knees beginning to buckle…

Heh, actually, it may be that they’re trying to hedge against Trump winning.

TRUMP: “Thank you America, and as my first act as President-Elect of this yuge country, I’d like to announce my nominee who’s gonna make America win at the courts again, a great lawyer, very classy, very good at law, you all know him, Senator Ted Cr–”

SENATE GOP: “Oh shit! Wait! No! Umm… we confirm whatshisname! Garland! The guy the black guy nominated!”

That’s an interesting accusation at the end of the article. I don’t suppose anyone asked him for proof.
