Discussion for article #222538
Oh come on, Harryā¦you should have just shrugged it off, not been quite so obvious in your grovelling.
We get it, Adelson could buy your seat with enough negative money. But this is just shameful.
Iād put it differently. Iād say off the bat that Reid isnāt actually concerned with Adelsonās money being used to take his Senate seat, for a number of reasons, including that Reidās not at all oblivious to his own age and that of Adelson. Iād have said it was the Kochās, not Adelson, who are āideologicallyā inclined, and that Adelsonās financial motives are not entirely irrelevant. But to the extent youāre suggesting Reid sees Adelson as someone who can be moved off the Tea Party agenda, Iād agree: Adelsonās main motivation seems to be a hedge bet that there MIGHT be a Heaven, which he should spend a bit on to get a ticket into, just in case.
It doesnāt matter if Harry is āgrovellingā or playing politics. Putting daylight between Koch Bros & Sheldon can only, in turn, divide them from one another. This is a good thing. You aināt gonna beat billionaire money in politics if you provide them reasons to present a united front.
Right. I thought Adelson was mainly concerned about not being prosecuted for his hanky panky in Macauā¦
Besides, Adelson was 100% ineffective, whereas the insane Koch brothers have influenced politics to a very alarming degree.
You were punching quite well there Harry. Why flinch? A distinction between dark and dirty money? A thief and a swindler? Money loving and the love of money?
If Adelson is not āin itā for the money then please explain why heās opposed to online gambling.
Wow you are way off in this response, for some reason.
And a number of other money making endeavors sandwiched around conflict and propaganda.
Yes, because Adelson is an ineffective twit (politically) while the Koch brothers have bought enough of our government that their efforts will be pretty much self-sustaining at this point.
Adelson is not in it for the money? Really, Harry? Offshore tax shelters; batting down online gambling; and the fact that even when youāre wealthy, itās still never enough money. Yeeshā¦
Which is the point. @CaptainCommonsense. Ideology/ money is the bridge that allows the John Birch Society to share a battle with the Neocons. They are not naturally allies.
Does this man do anything too help americans, or does he just bitch & moan about Rich people [and heās a rich person himself] donāt forget. āā Donāt pick on āā Sheldon Adelson; Because a lot of people work for him in Vegas and they might not vote for ME next time. This me is a JOKE.
Never mind the Kochs and Adelson. It seems that for the past 30 years, Repugnicans have known on which side their Wonder Bread is buttered! Theyāve given more than the Kochs all that time. 99% of the companyās political donations have gone to the right. I guess if they had their way, the Dem party would be toast!
Mr. Reid paid for Mr. Adelsonās gaming license personally, a gesture which Mr. Adelson warmly appreciated.
And 99% of democrat money has gone to unions.
Donāt you have that backwards? But I suppose youād like Labor to support those who would do away with unions, eh?
While I appreciate the reference, Sheldon Adelson is no Michael Corleoneā¦ heās more of a Fredo.
Oh BULLSHIT!
Harry Reid just lost any shred of credibility he had on this issue.
I know that no politician in Nevada dare cross Sheldon Adelson or any other Casino Mogul or he will be crushed (possibly for real) But come on.
Adelson only backed Rommney because Rommney promised him he would end the Justice Dept. probe into bribery and racketeering in Adelsonās Macau Casinos (and that he was illegally shipping Macau money back to the US) and would make On-Line gambling illegal (thus putting billions back into Adelsonās pockets.)
So Adelson isnāt in it to make money. Heās just in it to shove his ideological views down the countryās throat. Yeah, thatās a huge improvement.
