I have to remind myself often that people like Hannity believe their own craziness more than I realize. They’re ignoring every caution sign and guard rail careful, skeptical people use to keep their minds as nonsense-free as possible, it’s a lazy, facile, self-interested belief, but it’s genuine in its way. They wouldn’t be as effective without it. And there are real-life self-aware hypocrites too, but they’re rarer than a person would think.

I don’t think so, at least not in this case. Hannity is ginning up anger to his audience, and could care less whether the story he is peddling is true or not. And he desperately needs to do this because things are looking very badly for his team right now, so they need a distraction to hang their anger upon. They don’t dare get too close to the actual fire by making up crap about, say, Comey, because some of their audience might actually find out something. So they created this bullshit distraction
the DNC released all the info not our illustrious hero Assange!, and in the made up Clinton fantasy, of course she shot him personally to shut him up. Just like Vince Foster! See how well we tied the story together??

This is what folks like Hannity do, its the core foundation of RW infotainment. They don’t invest any time in even considering whether or not its true or not; only whether or not it will sell ad time to their deranged audience.
