Wonderful. Gonna miss the free-thinkinā, free-stylinā, fun-filled celebrations on all of American culture and life coming from the White House when this POTUS is gone. Not only my generation, but the younger generation has been given a real treat these last several years in that regard. None of this Pat Boone shit or the banal repetition of the perfunctory Country Music stars that GWB would constantly gravitate to when he was in office, primarily to amuse himself, if nobody else.
Btw, love the soundtrack to āHamiltonā. Truly exceptional. Iāll never have the money to see it on Broadway, but at least I got the music to twirl around toā¦and at my age, that still counts for something.

I liken it a little bit to āJesus Christ Superstarā. Honestly, I loved singing to it when I was younger and would sing to it aloud, to my parents surprise. It was basically how I learned about the history of Christianity to some degreeā¦ coming from a predominantly Jewish neighborhood and all.

I really have never liked Andrew Lloyd Weber. ĀØCatsĀØ alone makes me want to reexamine by long time opposition to the death penalty.

He is a Tory as I understand it. He went to London from the US to vote to cut tax credits that help the poor. Something only a Tory might do. I donāt like his rightwing politics, thatās for sure. I never knew he leaned in those directions however back then. And yeah, āCatsāā¦Ugh.

The only way I can tolerate āCatsā is because I can think about David Bowie the entire time I am there. It is like being transported back to 1980.
I love the music from Phantom, but I am not a huge fan of the show itself.
Honestly, I think the best musicals I have seen at āIn The Heightsā by Miranda and āWickedā by Stephen Schwartz. āPirates of Penzanceā by Sullivan and Gilbert is surprisingly fun as well, despite being over 130 years old.
I am a big musical fan, so I have seen my fair share. The Disney musicals have all let me down (although I havenāt seen Lion King yet). I honestly donāt understand why āIn The Heightsā didnāt get a longer Broadway run. It isnāt touring any more either. The community college that I work at just did a (not very good) performance of it. The soundtrack is great, but there is enough missing between songs, that I really wish I could see the rest of it again.

I havenāt seen anything on Broadway but Iāve listened to tons of musicals and still love them. They started doing Broadway shows around the country years ago and in my area, but I still donāt have that kind of expendable money to go to them. I sent my kid to NY when he was young with a youth group and he was able to see āRentā as a 13 year old. He was pissed that the rabbi decided on that rather than āThe Lion Kingā perhaps because he thought they were too old for childhood things by then. The rabbi was wrong. At my age, I would have preferred āThe Lion Kingā over āRentā too. And I remember giving āThe Pirates of Penzanceā album to my parents as an anniversary gift years ago when they were both alive. Those are good memories.

Iām Canadian (but lived for a decade in Manhattan, Portland Oregon and Dallas). I have been arguing on comment boards for the last six plus years that you guys have had a truly extraordinary man in the White House. Those posts have been received, often, poorly (and Iām speaking of left-leaning communities). Something like half or more of the rejoinders to such posts have been marked by a cynicism about his effectiveness, his targets for attention/action, and even his sincerity. This has always befuddled me and Iāve had to attribute it to some species of Green Lanternism (He failed us in not going for single payer) or to a general tendency within the body politic of America to resist optimism (Heās a politician so, axiomatically, he will disappoint us) or, finally, to a failure of many to comprehend the reality of and the nature of the dynamics arrayed against progressive political endeavors in the US.
It has really only been over the last half year or so (as the GOP candidates have emerged from the Black Lagoon) that Iāve seen the prior cynicism begin to shift in the direction of the position Iāve been pointing to. It shouldnāt have taken so damned long nor needed such stark contrasts - as if those contrasts werenāt already clearly visible.
