Haitians Booted From Dominican Republic Face Uncertain Future

Um, yeah, but the reason this is a problem is that a more accurate headline would be “Dominicans Booted From Dominican Republic Face Uncertain Future.”

They have Haitian ancestry, but as you say, they were presumptively Dominican citizens by birth until all of a sudden they weren’t. The AP article here is fine, but the TPM headline could use some work.

It’s seems Haitians can’t catch a break, from their independence to Papa Doc to the earthquake to now this. Having said that… they are by far the most resilient people ever.

You know that this is true? The US is one of the few places that allows for anchor babies. The DR does not. Citizenship does not happen in civilized countries because you show up and try to get on the dole, like in the US.

Haiti has one problem that the DR does not have - overpopulation. The ability of the Haitian government to provide policies and products to allow citizens to control their own fertility is absent. This means that Haiti is in a horrible mess due to overpopulation. The Catholic Church is partially to blame. The DR is catholic as well. Haiti should make IMMEDIATE steps to allow all persons to have birth control methods.

Sorry I could only like this once!
You heard about the passing of Regnad Kcin?

I get that you’d like some attention for the whole “anchor babies on the dole” bit. But to answer the question you built the troll around, the problem here is that the new Dominican policy puts it in violation of treaties it’s signed which prohibit countries from creating stateless persons with a stroke of the pen… or for that matter by destroying citizenship documents you’ve already issued because you’re trying to racially cleanse your half of the island.
