If I were running a business with a large number of “at will” employees, I think I’d be inclined to start doing a little quiet housecleaning. Are these really the kind of people you want representing your business?
Perhaps, but he certainly expressed himself inartfully. In his business, he shouldn’t be criticizing someone solely on the basis of whom they voted for. Criticize and/or remove them on the basis of their actual words or deeds. Something like, “Intolerance and discrimination are not tolerated at GrubHub. Period.”
I don’t think discrimination based on politics should be tolerated in the workplace, but I certainly empathize with his point. I’ve always been on the other end…surrounded by republicans and mormons, and feeling at risk because of that. Of course, I’m not guilty of voting for a completely unqualified, hate-inciting, lying, tax-cheating molester either, so maybe he’s right.
This is really dumb. Just as dumb as right wing owners threatening employees to vote Republican. The concept is the same: Corporations and business owners that they should have power over their employees outside the place of business. The old serf concept.
Keep it confined to what the employees do while on the job. Does the position require good critical thinking skills?
I had a Republican cat. She wasn’t hungry, she had eaten all she could, but she guarded the bowl so the other cat couldn’t eat. I still loved her, even though she was a Republican. She taught me tolerance. I just had to get a new area for the other cat to eat in. And keep her out of it.
If your politics involve actively expressing that you are a bigot, misogynist or homophobe at the workplace, then sorry, you’re fired.
This is bad reporting by the AP. The email obviously said that those who want to speak and behave like the horrible new president have no place in this workplace, as they shouldn’t in any workplace. Bigots like Donald shouldn’t have a place in polite society, even.
TPM why are you reprinting this obviously false article by the AP? If you read the actual letter it’s clear that the GrubHub CEO merely said that those who share Trump’s hateful views should resign.
Considering that this clown’s corporation is partially dependent on H-1Bs, it’s no wonder he is upset. After all, if you are possibly seeing the end of the H-1B indentured servant, you could be unhappy. You might have to replace the H-1Bs with American IT workers. I guess that made this guy mad.
Yeah horribly misleading headline.
I will boycott businesses I know that are run by Trump supporters.
Thank you for pointing this out. I wish TPM were more thoughtful when posting.
And Thank you, Poster11. Anyone who took the time to read the actual email ot employees would have understood what the CEO was saying; except, of course, Some employees who, perhaps, harbor the same views as expressed by Trump during his campaign.
What he should have said is that no preening and strutting and being obnoxious to co-workers or customers will be tolerated by GrubHub. GrubHub views any such intolerant behavior as harassment and will be cause for dismissal.
