Discussion: Groups Seek NY Constitutional Right To Clean Air, Water

This is a great idea. Unfortunately, having a constitutional right doesn’t necessarily mean much in practice. Think of the Equal Protection Clause.

It’s a beginning. And I hope we can hope it’s a good sign.

One would think this is a no-brainer and it is: the no-brained GOP will block any attempt to keep air and water from being monetized.

And Flint. Apparently the majority of voters at most state levels prefer a demagogue who promises less EPA regulation- jobs that pollute air and water- and more jobs to the candidate who promises and delivers jobs that are EPA-regulated to lessen pollution. Why else would state legislatures and governorships be GOP-controlled by a margin of 2-1?

In part, because of the failure of Democrats to build grass-roots structures, which led to Republican majorities in many states in 2010, which led to gerrymandering through redistricting. And Democrats have not shown that they have learned from history.
