This is bullshit. If you have some suspicion about someone that might know someone or know something about a terror plot, by all means, go have a conversation with them. But a blanket questioning of Muslim leaders? If they had information, what makes you think they wouldn’t have provided it?
And if they had information and didn’t provide to this point, what makes you think they will provide it when you go ask them?
I’m all about a more open dialogue and reaching out the the Muslim community in America to ensure that they are not afraid to speak up when they feel a friend, family, or community member is becoming radicalized. Or if they heard some disturbing rumor. We should foster that open communication. This seems counter-productive. A good way to paint people as potential terrorists for absolutely no reason. You know that the right wing nutjobs out there will say “well, they wouldn’t be talking to that person unless they know something bad about them!”

If you’re an FBI agent involved in counterterrorism and you don’t know whether the person you’re talking to knows a major Al Qaeda leader, you’re haven’t done your basic homework. What are the odds this turns out to have nothing to do with the counterterrorism folks at the FBI and is instead from some other division?
