Discussion for article #227689
Excellent ad. I do hope it helps. She is heading south in the polling lately, and it has me very concerned.
I guess that’s what it takes to win in Kentucky, and Grimes would be better than McConnell, but I wouldn’t donate a penny to her. She is as bad as Republicans on some of the key issues of the day.
Would you rather have Grimes or McConnell? I know my answer. I hope you understand she is running in Kentucky to represent the people from her state. You can’t demand pure progressive candidates if you want to win. I don’t know about you, but I want to win. Withholding money because she isn’t perfect is a sure way to re-elect McConnell.
A very, very smart ad for Kentucky.
I know, I know: Some readers here are upset that she
she’s not a liberal. Hell, I’m upset that Kentucky’s not blue. But she’s a damned good candidate for that red state, and she has a chance, despite the gazillions of dollars being spent to destroy her.
Imagine the blow to GOP morale if she won! Imagine! Then, help out with a contribution and a little volunteer time if you’re a Kentuckian or can help remotely.
Yet she’s better than Mitch by an order of magnitude—so she deserves our donations.
The so-called “liberals” who keep whining that this candidate or that candidate isn’t perfect enough make me want to scream.
ANY given Democrat is better that any given Republican, regardless of where they stand on any set of issues.
Amazing how many people denounce the Teaparty litmus test Republicans must pass while at the same time demanding litmus tests for Democrats. For Kentucky, Grimes is a liberal. I’d rather deal with a few Blue Dogs in the Senate than give the Republicans control.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Ladies and Gents, we have a winner!!!
At least since Zell Miller and Lieberman retired.
One thing is for sure. she can shoot!
Exactly, Grimes is about as best as we’re going to get out of KY. You can’t win this state if you’re not absolutely 100% pro-coal and equally as anti-EPA. Grimes has a real chance to win but that’s not going to happen if the ReaLiberals continue attacking her for not being Elizabeth Warren and if Democrats refuse to donate to her because she’s not liberal enough.
“That’s not how you hold a gun” got some snickers six months ago. She needs a better counterpunch if she wants to control the messaging, especially with McConnell’s COS newly departed from the campaign. Mitch left her scrambling to defend a parting salvo from Jesse Benton (many months in the making) and she didn’t force his newly constituted team to explain themselves on something big, like taking away people’s Medicaid.
Terrible ad in running from her fears. The people this ad is aimed at are not going to vote for Grimes regardless of how she holds a gun. Offering new leadership is more important than kissing the rings of politics in KY.
She definitely is not Obama but I wish her luck in slaying the Giant.
Meh. I doubt whether the Kentuckians who give a shit about how you hold a shotgun are going to vote for Grimes purely because of this ad.
I certainly don’t expect her to be Elizabeth Warren, but if she is unwilling or unable to explain how McTurtle’s anti-Obamacare stance logically means the death of Kynect then I’m skeptical that she’ll get the turnout she needs in her favor. Hope I’m wrong!
At least don’t shoot yourself in the foot trying to avoid Obama. When there are many other issues, ripe for presentation on their merits, sans Obama.
Hey she is trying to talk to Kentuckians.
that about covers it.
Same problem here with Tennesseans.
that also covers it.
The rest of my comment just went down the toilet.
McConnell’s entire campaign can be boiled down to: Grimes is just like that negro in the WH who is responsible for every bad thing that’s ever happened to you. She absolutely MUST separate herself from Obama as often as she reasonably can. It’s a good ad because she not only hits McConnell but also gets to throw in a few lines about where she disagrees with the president. That’s always a good thing for a Democrat in KY.
Actually, the people this ad is aimed at could very well vote either way. Democrats in KY enjoy a 500,000 voter registration advantage. The problem is that those Democrats are very conservative and just as likely to vote for a Republican over a Democrat and vice versa. This ad is aimed at rural parts of Western and Eastern KY. If she can keep from riling up some of those folks, run up the vote totals in Lexington and Louisville, she can win. Still, she’s got to keep rural KYians from believing she’d be a rubber stamp for Obama. They want to pull the lever for her, but they hate Obama more they love even their own children. They’d rather starve and watch their children starve than to do anything that could be remotely seen as helpful to Obama. That’s what Grimes is up against.
OK, where does she stand on those 3 issues? I assume she likes guns.
“That’s not how you hold a gun.”
It is if you can’t hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle.
