Discussion: Grassley Wants Congress To Make Sexual Harassment Training Mandatory

Really, Chuckles? What about the Senate staff, asshole? And BTW, what about your own damn self, you self-righteous, pandering piece of shit? Just because you look like you haven’t been able to get it up for 43 years doesn’t convince me that you haven’t grabbed a few crotches during your time in the Senate, just like your hero in the White House.
Oh, and make sure your shoes are tied next time a reporter asks you about the Russia/Trump scandal and you run away like you are heading for the Senate bathroom after downing a box of Ex-Lax. We wouldn’t want to see you fall flat on your face, dickhead.

I said to my wife that there sure seems to be a lot of this in DC and Hollywood. And she almost punched me. “Not just there!! Everywhere!! All the time!!”

She was absolutely shocked I didn’t know how pervasive it is. I got that sense (again) how limited my perspective is.

Staffers - good start. But not the Congressmen or Representatives themselves. So if it is the elected official doing the harassment - it’s okay? Or it’s the job of the staff to recognize the behaviors and ‘warn’ the staff - but not the elected official because/Congress = 'laws don’t apply to us?" Be a tad bit bolder, Senator - how about everyone needs to attend including members of the House and Senate?

How isn’t it already mandatory? My company has been making us do it for years.

ETA: Wait a minute. Just the staff? What about the law makers? They’re probably the worst offenders (old boys club). Not to mention staff take their direction from their leaders.

The Senate is part of the Congress.

All very well, but do likely harassers and actual harassers listen? No. I represent victims of discrimination and we sometimes joke ruefully about sexual harassment training that we didn’t know they had to be taught.

What works is actual discipline. Come down hard on the harassers. We can’t fire congressmen, only the voters can do that. But the House and the Senate could penalize those who behave badly toward other members, the staff, constituents or members of the public. And, of course, congressmen and senators can fire staff members to transgress.

We know what The GRASSHOLE’s “Sexual Harassment” training would consist of!

  • Deny women contraception
  • Deny them access to abortion
  • Deny them fair pay
  • Deny them childcare services
  • Endlessly exploit women, especially women of color!

We can’t fire legislators, but the house and senate can both vote to expel. That would be a heck of a powerful message. (Which I am not holding my breath to wait for)

That was my first reaction as well, but mandatory harassment training seminars may be limited to where corporation, school, etc could be found liable-mostly a CYA maneuver.
And what of the Representative, Senator, Cabinet Member, President? I can’t imagine any process, Human Resources, putting it in file to build a paper trail, that would be adequate to this.

Do you remember how they finally got rid of Bob Packwood? I think it was censure, then resignation-

Mandatory Sexual Harassment Training?

How not to? Or how to?

Being a Republican suggestion, I’m betting the latter.

A healthy knee or kick into the gonads usually helps ( especially if the bloke is married ) .

It is Not the staff but the senators and congress critters that need training…157 + payouts to women and men who have been harassed in the past few years.

The taxpayer foots the bill…not the pervert. Congress member…

Training should not be confined to ‘new hires’…it is the POWERFUL that need reminders every damn day to be respectful and fair in both speech and actions.

I guess the appropriate response is “welcome to the 21st century, how is this not already a requirement?” I thought all government employees were already compelled to get this training - that was certainly true when I did a brief stint in federal service and it is also true of my current state service. Of course this is yet another reason why we need more women in top leadership positions.

And elected officials too, right?

Do that in the workplace and you could easily lose your job may be prosecuted for assault. Not a great answer to the problem.

Some people say that making women go through a vaginal ultrasound in order to get an abortion is sexual harassment. Some people say that taking away Title IX protections is sexual harassment of women. Some people say taking away access to birth control is sexual harassment of women. And some people say Republicans are profound hypocrites. Isn’t that how Fox news works. "Some people say . . . "

I call it sexual assault, but don’t mind me, I’m just a woman.
