Discussion: Grand Jury Indicts Judge Who Allegedly Attacked Disabled Black Man

Ahhh, Mississippi.
The armpit of the nation striving to march forward boldly into the 1870’s.
This guy is the POSTER BOY for the “Good Old Boys” club.

Hmm. Makes bigotry sound like a mental illness. That could be useful.

i suspect a careful check of the judicial record of this “judge” will show plenty of other episodes of unchecked bigotry. What in the world is wrong in Mississippi that this official felt safe enough to openly attack this disabled man and call him what he called him? Getting a guilty verdict will be a challenge in those fevered swamps.

Racism, and tragically poor white folks who think that being white is somehow some kind of great accomplishment that entitles them to randomly abuse minorities.

One would hope that this “judge” would receive the justice he deserves, and if he did what it seems, spends a good amount of time among the folks he so callously sat in judgment of. They will take care of the justice. Mississippi, the “Magnolia State” has such a sordid history of violence against minorities, and it doesn’t look like it will change anytime soon. What will it take?

No, no. Putin/Netanyahu, the all-American team who would best represent us in this scary world.

I don’t understand why the U.S. elects judges. It seems to gurantee the lowest common denominator lack of judiciousness.

I think every black person who ever faced him in court should be entitled to a retrial.

It’s a cycle. Racism is very easy. A number of people find it so.

For a major political party to use it as a main basis for motivation, turnout, policy and messaging (especially at the local level) is something that the Fourth Estate is responsible for Pointing Out.

Which leads to the questions…

“Is there any Remedy?” “Who manages the Fourth Estate?”

(1) Liberal bloggers?
(2) The 0.001%
(3) FOX?
(4) Cable News?
(5) Talk Radio?
(6) The Corporate Structure?
(7) Congress?
(8) Boomers?
(9) Millennials?
(10) Nike?
(11) Apple?

One can see that the list gets more snarky as I go on…but, actually, each of the above has similar probabilities
of correcting what now is a communication disaster for a modern society of epic proportions. Each of the above has severe weaknesses in doing very much. The weaknesses are touched on below…

Weakness of (1) We mainly only “educate” and talk to each other.
Weakness of (2) It’s THEIR show. WHY would they wish to change anything?
Weakness of (3) Hate for oldsters is too much fun.
Weakness of (4) See (1) above
Weakness of (5) See (3) above
Weakness of (6) See (2) above
Weakness of (7) An action arm of (2) and (6)
Weakness of (8) Not enough of us. Besides, half of us are Baggers
Weakness of (9) They will be Young forever. At least, that’s what they believe
Weakness of (10) Selling sneakers to (9) is profitable
Weakness of (11) See (10)

Just read article in Clarion-Ledger, you only need a high school diploma to be the kind of “judge” this character is. There was no mention of Law School in his background.

Phil Ochs: still right.

Talk about demanding!

Don’t matter if they’s all wrong facts based on key misreads or holy innocent non-reads, poster’s got opinions and this America man!

What State are you from? I guess can you cannot call knee jerk hatred for the South racism but it does qualify as bigotry. What state are you from. I’d like to Google it and show you it’s imperfections as all 50 states have them. I’ve been asking critics of the South to identify their home states for years…virtually none have the stones to do it. Where are you from?

Still waiting.

No Judgeship requires a Law degree. Most Judges come from the attorney crowd but the best one’s do not.

FOX News: Update: " White Mississippi Judge attempts to do racial outreach and is persecuted because he simply tried to get a black man to exercise."

Don’t laugh! It IS possible.

OH! BTW…Wonder how long before Weisenberger issues his standard Rightie Con and GOP non-apology and adds that he “…has lots of black friends.”
Evidently what is considered a “hate crime” in the rest of the country is considered a qualification for reelection in Mississippi.

“might”, well, this is America, we don’t go around railroading folks on the mere say so of some lengthy list of independent witnesses and a lazy shiftless black dude’s kin looking for a free ride paydayout from under their responsibilities. It’s all well and good to throw around vague and spurious charges, but no one should ever forget that word’s made up of “a” and “ledge”.

He’ll go down, but even if he does not this appears to be a CLEAR case of a Hate Crime, so the Feds can nail him too.

How would you like to be “judged” by this creep?

Requirements to be a judge in Mississippi? ____ Under Mississippi law, the only requirement to be elected a Justice Court judge is a high school diploma. After taking office, the judges are required to take up to six hours of training a year.

A high school diploma and six hours of training a year??? WTF?
Well ______To be fair, I suppose, it IS Mississippi after all.

As others have probably remarked, nothing is going to happen to this guy. This is Mississippi: black lives are worth shit there.

This judge is out committing the crimes also too, what a well rounded adjudicator he truly is.

A half decade or so in jail and the circle will be squared.
