Discussion: Graham

…being the operative phrase.

She’ll regret this bill when she herself needs an abortion to fulfill her promise to not procreate…

…deflated by Patriots.

Cue any mention of Lindsey Graham. Next, cue lame homophobic humor/hostility slithering out of the margins of TPM comments. C’mon, folks. This is juvenile and embarrassing and hypocritical. Delete your comments. Delete your impulse to comment. Maybe see a therapist about it.

You know that the TeaPUbs who have needs for abortions will have them done surreptitiously …

while women who have been denied access to PlannedParenthood will have to resort to backstreet abortionists…

…but this is the Republican creatin’ jobs…

Sen. Graham doesn’t have a legitimate grip on reality. He has no legitimate intelligence to speak on these matters. His words on such topics make him illegitimate to the discussion, ergo he’s an illegitimate Senator.

we need help finding a way to stop the gop from serially raping the english language.

He saw ONE … in passing at least (Tho, in fairness, he was quite young then, and his eyes may not have adapted to focus yet.).

Let’s form a giant commission of all men, restricted to those who will never ever have even the least remote interest in vaginas or their owner-operators, put Senator Graham in charge of that commission (given his undoubted qualifications on every count), and just let them decide on the assembly of a vast byzantine array of regulatory hoops which merely by their existence will end the whole concept of medically supervised and assisted abortions, plus constitute a plenary body for the hearing of all appeals.

Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Instead of chastising the whole group maybe you should take it up with the person who made the offending comment?

I hate these guys too…but the decision also frequently involves the male partners of women. Unless you’re talking strictly about abortion after rape, then…yeah, no one but women.

How about this;

All life is important but some life is more important than others.

Example 1: If a woman I love gets raped and pregnant by someone I don’t love then the life of that rapist and that unborn child is not as important as that woman’s life so we can kill the rapist and unborn child.

Example 2: If a woman I don’t love gets pregnant, by rape or consensual sex, none of those lives is important to me but the woman and consensual lover have to have the child to suffer the consequences of their sin. The woman that was raped has to have the child and raise it because she probably brought the rape on herself and so she and the child have to pay the consequences; the rapist can be killed just to make sure he doesn’t try it with a woman I love.

There, I think that defines Graham out of the problem.

You know, besides the absolute idiocy of his comments, I could almost buy into his “for the child” comment, if he and his fellow Republicans even bothered to think of what happens to that child after it has been delivered. I don’t just mean free lunches … I’m talking about guaranteeing a living wage for the parent or parents of that child. Making the tax burden on that child’s family fair and equitable would also help out. I’m talking about making sure the child has access to affordable and decent health care, an adequate (at minimal) education and the chance to compete on an unbiased playing field level when he or she enters the job market. Clouding the issue (or so he hopes) with his ridiculous comments tells me everything I need to know about the man.

How nice that you realize that coming to a battle of wits unarmed is a bad idea…

But ‘attagirl’ for trying to bring down ‘c’mon, folks’ to a level that’s easier for you to manage.

Well, I think julimac’s got a point. It crops up in virtually every Graham-related thread, and comes from a variety of posters, including any number of the usually-reliable folks. We’re all in favor of LGBT rights, but gee, isn’t it fun to refer to Graham as “Miss Lindsey?” Hypocritical, and irrelevant, to boot. It’s getting like prison rape jokes.

Graham deserves our derision for the abhorent policy positions he advocates. No shortage of “just cause” there.

It happens because Graham (to which I usually add Crackers but won’t now so as not to offend) is one of the most opportunistic Senators in the body. He goes on talk shows on Sunday, rails against Obama, rails against women at right wing conferences of late, is a war monger, and now has floated the notion of running for the presidency. I see somebody in it for the prestige, the money, the influence and completely lacking the impulse to do any good for his constituents or the country. Moreover, only if Graham were to read the critical comments posted here would you need to fret about his feelings being hurt. He doesn’t. It’s sport for the commentators… P.S. I for one have never indulged in the homophobic comments, he remains only an asshole to me.

As a woman who has had real life experience with choosing, I applaud and commend your change of viewpoint. But I would also add that most men need to stay out of the conversation unless they have first discussed it with the woman in their lives who is pregnant.

I assume you’d give more weight to what a woman decides to do even after consulting with the man in her life who loves her
