Yeah, well, by noon Lindsey will have done another 180. I wouldn’t get too wound up yet.

You are probably right
That’s the trouble with those Russian assets, they say one thing and then are told to do something else by Moscow
What’s an American to do?

The private polling must be brutal if Graham is suggesting this.

I love the smell of republican desperation in the morning.

Pelosi likely has an explicit understanding with the more radical members in her caucus to fight Trump tooth and nail on everything possible. She made a lot of promises to secure the speakership. I don’t think she folds. The tragedies unfolding in many families due to all this are regrettable, and she has the power to end it all. But Trump is getting the blame for it, and few seriously dispute that. Nor do I see the situation evolving to the point Dems start to shoulder an onerous level of responsibility. This is Trump’s mess, and will remain Trump’s mess. The longer he holds fast I think it will actually become more his mess than it is now.
He finds assaults and threats to his fragile ego intolerable. Losing galls him to no end. Barring Dems entering into a compromise I fail to see an exit strategy that doesn’t include declaring an emergency.

I’ve just figured out Lindsey Graham’s spirit animal. It’s a jellyfish! It has no backbone and, judging by how he went from “We need to call a nat’l emergency” to “we need to just reopen the gov’t and negotiate later” demonstrates how it just rides the tide to push it along.

and McConnell could end it in a NY minute

Curious if anyone here has seen any mention in the news (or here on TPM) about whether or not there are veto-proof majorities in both chambers on this issue? How close are we to 290 in the House and 60 in the Senate?

I think you’d need 67 for a Veto-proof majority in the Senate, and around 295 in the House. We’re not there yet, but I think we’re getting close.

Two years ago Trump’s bullying and begging got nada wall financing from Enrique Peña Nieto. His same actions are getting nada from Pelosi and Schumer. Go figure.

Lindsay has turned into a “Magic Eight Ball”… every few hours he gets shaken and a new answer on how to deal with the situation pops up.

Oh yeah. 67. Math is hard. :grimacing:

Thanks for the update. Everyone is talking about the national emergency angle but I hadn’t heard anyone mention veto override, which seems like the more obvious solution.

No wall until we see exactly where the money is going. No wall until we know how much private property has to be commandeered. No wall until we know what type of fucking structure is to be built. No wall until we know how much of this money is going to go towards more immigration judges. No wall until we know, well all kinds of things.

Fuck you Lindsay! I’m guessing the shut down is all about trying to shut down Mueller’s investigation. Folks may be fucked until enough come out to bring him down or fucks like you admit he’s a treasonist and your party is putting itself above the US.

First he wants tRump to declare a national emergency so he can start the process to build the edifice, now he wants the govt. opened temporarily so they can negotiate. Sounds like two radically different options Graham. What is it you are proposing exactly?

290 is the magic number in the House. There are currently 434 members (remember, North Carolina is down 1 due to incompetently executed Republican voter fraud). 290 is just a hair over 2/3, and so gets 'er done.

As to where we are publicly? We’re still rather short – only 12 R’s have crossed the aisle so far in the house. There are only 4 GOP Senators who have publicly split from Yertle’s position. No one is talking about where the actual whip counts are.

Gross speculation following
If something gets passed on to Induhvidual One’s desk, I think he won’t veto it. I also think he won’t sign it. If he takes no action after 10 business days, it becomes law without his signature. I’ll predict now that that is what will happen.
