You can quit play-acting Graham. We all know you and your clown crew on the Hill will do jack shit about it.
Anytime these gasbags make declarations like this they should outline (or be made to outline) the actions they would take if the hypothetical came to pass. Just saying, “I’m going to do something - believe me!” is no more credible than when Donnie made the same kind of promises on the campaign trail.
Ask about pro forma sessions to block recess appointments. Ask about limits on PotUS’s ability to make nearly any federal employee an acting AG. Ask about Congress passing new independent counsel legislation.
Strong words. Between this and McCain’s speech I’d say the nation’s been given a lot to think about in the last few days.
"Graham also floated legislation that he’s planning to introduce next week that he think he can get “all Democrats and a good number of Republicans” onboard with that will say a special counsel can’t be fired when they’re asked to investigate the President and his team, unless there’s a “judicial review” of the firing. "
“A good number of republicans” maybe – but a majority of them cannot be counted on to fulfill their constitutional duty to check the abuses of a corrupt out of control president. What does this say about about your beloved GOP Lindsey?
I don’t believe that. I think this is the hill Senate Republicans are willing to die on. Remember, they know stuff we don’t, and I’m getting the sense PP is dangerously close to being cut loose.
Graham and McCain: time to put up or shut up? Are you regular Americans or Trumpers? You already know that Trump doesn’t respect either one of you - and you know he is a disaster for America. Look at Howard Baker and Watergate-Nixon. Stop worrying about re-election and start worrying about the country.
What do you mean ‘dangerously’ ? You make it sound like a bad thing …
Think you can get veto proof majorities in both houses? Right. Not going to happen.
Then again if you just want to force a complete and total presidential meltdown because folks are debating this on the floor of the Senate (don’t think you could get a House floor vote- you know, Ryan) … go ahead Lindsey, troll away.
Touche! Dangerously for him. Joyously for us.
It won’t be joyous for the GOP. The endless whining, recriminations, and illegal attempts to subvert the inevitable will be like three years of nails-on-chalkboard.
Graham also floated legislation that he’s planning to introduce next week that he think he can get “all Democrats and a good number of Republicans” onboard with that will say a special counsel can’t be fired when they’re asked to investigate the President and his team, unless there’s a “judicial review” of the firing.
The House will tell the Senate to piss up a rope and their consideration of the bill will die in committee.
I agree with you. This sounds quite different than the usual murmurs of “concerned” and “troubled.”
Hey folks with access to Nexis - go find some choice quotes from McConnell and Ryan from just before the convention as they were promising worried delegates that Congress would step up and assert itself to keep Trump in line if he overstepped his role as president. They said numerous things to try to avoid a brokered convention - and it was all about Congresses role in checks and balances and being a coequal branch of government. Those items need to go viral and swirl around the GOP in the hill.
Why do I have a feeling we’re stuck in the tale of the little boy who cried “wolf!!”, Washington edition???
Out of curiosity, how much more efficient is Nexis than Google?
I hope you’re right — but my supply of hope is getting thin, so I won’t hope too much.
McCain speech was a total fraud. As proven by his votes before and later that same evening, as well as the following morning where he voted explicitly to not return to regular order and voted for the bill(s) he said could not support.
He is a coward, liar, and a hypocrite.
I will happily welcome being proven wrong by events. But Lucy is holding the football again.
That’s certainly possible. I’ve been struck by the resolve on the sanctions issue. And I think all the rope they gave Trump was premised on his meeting them halfway and not ruining their world. And I don’t think the genius dealmaker ever understood that those were the terms. But I think we need to listen to the language of actions from now on. The GOP created this entire situation. If they fix it, good. But I don’t want to get excited about words.
