Lindsey is just joining a chorus that is singing an off-key tune. As has been pointed out, the purpose of an investigation (or a potential investigation) is to gather the evidence that might prove a crime or ethics violation. The purpose of a recusal is to eliminate the actuality or even the appearance that the person in charge of the investigation will possibly influence the investigation to reach a particular result or conclusion. An investigation is to be started when there is an allegation or reasonable possibility that something untoward has happened. Many Republicans are now suggesting that the evidence must already be in before the investigation begins. Some would say that this is misleading.

I knew there would be a pearl-clutching moment with Lindsay. Anything he had to say wouldn’t be the same without it.
Should I wait a couple hours to see if he’ll take back his concession that Sessions should recuse himself? Something tells me I should before giving him props just quite yet. If anyone’s fickle about taking a strong stand on something, its fucking Lindsay Graham.
