He sounds like a guy would look dancing the Jitterbug to the Strasburg Waltz. No way you can pull of praise of Trumps goofy shit. It’s odd he would say “Trump listens to his Military Commanders” when during the campaign Trump dismissed them by saying he knew more than they do about their own biz. The comment about Trump taking his advice from the generals where Obama did not is hard to reckon with the American principal of Civilian control of the military. If Trump does what the Generals tell him to we’ll be in wars all over the place. If he asks a plumber for advice he’ll be told he needs to plumb stuff. A general will see war as a panacea for all things American.
Trump is crazy. Perhaps the senator can’t see that or is forced to pretend otherwise because he shares an ® after his name like Trump does but 65 % of the American people see crazy. Trump’s not done yet. The “big one” is coming and Graham’s smart enough to know now and not then is the time to distance him from this President. But he was talking to an audience that just wants to hear one thing.
Reading between the lines, Lindsey seems to be implying that there will be no 25th amendment approach to trump. Lindsey’s and the GOP’s best hope is that Trump resigns before the Russia and financial crimes investigations hit the fan.
Actually the little mustachioed jackbooted fascist denying von Paulus’ plea to surrender and demanding they fight to the last cartridge and then commit suicide was a “strategy” and not unhinged denial of reality.
“There’s nothing ordinary about Donald Trump, okay? And so the first thing you’ve got to realize is this is not an ordinary guy. These are not ordinary times." The same could be said of Ted Bundy. Stop defending, enabling and normalizing this.
It’s not a strategy, it’s a tactic. It’s what Trump has been doing since he was a candidate, slamming Republicans who don’t kiss the ring, or fail to cover for him, until he needs them. There is no goal involved, other than making sure Trump doesn’t get blamed for anything, and the base remains loyal. The more Trump fails, the more he’s going to kick the Republican party establishment. He knows they are less popular with the base than he is, and he will work to keep it that way, especially as that becomes insurance they will be reluctant to publicly attack him. The day Trump is less popular with Republican voters than Ryan and McConnell, is the day that start the process of removing him and replacing him with Pence. On a gut level, Trump understands this, which is why he will make every effort to make sure that doesn’t happen.
The problem (one of a myriad) is that 8 months into Trump’s term, and 40 months away from the next presidential election, a president is supposed to have a governing strategy, not a political strategy.
Nixon used to complain that the American people were ungovernable. Now, the American people are recognizing that the president is ungovernable.
“He’s not the first president to use the bully pulpit to try to push the country in a particular direction or to keep his base on board,” the senator told Hugh Hewitt.
Lindsey “I’m Dancing as Fast as I Can” Graham; as others have pointed out, you can’t have it both ways. Trump is crazy or he’s just an idiot; there is no third choice. He will not win a second term (if he’s around to run for it) by pandering to his “base.” There are simply not enough people in this country crazy enough to vote for him again, AND to win enough electoral votes to take office. Above and beyond that, he will hopefully be in jail, at best, or have been impeached and removed from office. Let’s worry about 2018 before we start measuring drapes in the Oval Office, shall we?
Strategy in that Trump only has one strategy, which is to bully people and when that fails, he tucks tail, hides and denies. The most pathetic “leader” in any business or political position, this country has ever had.
“The President can be very disciplined. His Afghan speech was excellent in terms of substance and tone. He listened to the generals, unlike President Obama who ignored sound military advice."
Graham’s like McCain. Once a month he sounds like he’s reasonably in touch with reality, but for the other 29 days he’s just as much of a fool as the rest of 'em.
If you are wondering why we cannot “have nice things” may I suggest we ask “The Donald”. He is president and it’s supposed to be that “the buck stops with HIM”
