Discussion: Graham Gathers Impatient, Moderate GOP Sens. To Strategize On Ending Shutdown

I sure hope “no” is gonna stay “no” this time.

Unless, of course, is something massive, like, oh, Medicare for All, or free tuition at public colleges and universities or something similarly significant.

But none of those are going to happen, so “no” better stay “no”…

He gathered a group of moderate Rehugs… How many were there 2 or 3 if that?

“Graham seems to be driving at a deal to sweeten the pot enough for Democrats that they’d yield on the wall.”

You apparently haven’t heard a word the Dems have said, but keep bashing your head against the wall.

DACA for 2.5 Billion

“There’s a way to get what the President wants and do the least amount of damage to the country as possible,” Graham told Politico.

There’s no way to square that circle. What the Pretender “wants” would damage the country. The sooner they start doing their jobs and quit enabling treason, the better.

I could live with that – with the other $3Bn for healthcare…

At least a billion for better processing for refugees and better housing for would be immigrants.

A wall is a total waste of money and an ecological problem.

If there’s going to be any funding for “wall,” the legislation needs to state exactly what materials will be used, exactly what it will look like, exactly where it will be located, and exactly how the land will be obtained from ranchers and others.

Certainly, with as important as this issue is to the president and for such a long time, and with the seriousness of the security and humanitarian crises … he has these thing well-researched and planned.

When this is clearly stated, along with a realistic offer on DACA and reasonable comprehensive immigration reform, then negotiations can get real.

But … end the shutdown first.

a wee bit of insomnia thinking about this negotiating tactic of holding the government hostage then all of sudden dangling carrots in front of Chuck and Nancy. On the one hand, we can get good things (a path for dreamers, etc.), OTOH, a total abdication of the role of Congress as co-equal branch of the government along with negotiating with terrorists.

Pisses me off bigly.

Hope D’s say open the government then let’s do a deal.

End the charade: Impose strict procedures for bidding any constructions.

Otherwise we can expect the Puerto Rico reconstruction by Whitefish on steroids.

Yes! I want to hear about where the “physical barrier made of some sort of material” will actually go. I want to know how many more Border Patrol Agents will be hire, the cost of their training, what that training involves, I want to see the construction bids, and I want to know that Trump can’t get his hands on any of the money for his “Border Wall Slush Fund”.

Moderate Republicans?

No. Such. Thing. Anymore.

It’s the plan of the moment, don’t ya know, and how would they ever come up with a concrete proposal. No one has a clue about how this should work.

I’d be willing to posit Joe Manchin as one for the sake of argument.

Whatever, Graham

The question in my mind has always been what are GOPs willing to give up for $5.7B for a wall? Even the $5.7B is a drop in the bucket. That doesn’t even come close to the actual cost of the wall. Give us something substantial for that symbolic sum.

Absolutely right. As I recall they did this to Obama with the debt ceiling; the first time he threw them a bone, again if I recall correctly, the second he said eff this ess and they caved. We can’t have this every time the bills come due. It’s one more way a minority threatens damage to everyone to get their way because they can’t do it with votes. Bastards–they get nothing. Not this way. Open the government and then we’ll deal.

As if Dump would even honor any deal they come up with. Waste of time, Lindsey. Remember the $25 billion cheeseburger wall summit with Chuck last year? Remember how the waffler-in-chief torpedoed it at the behest of his pet fascist Steven Miller and General “empty barrel” Kelly? To quote the second worst president of the century, “fool me once, don’t get fooled again.”
