Hmmmm…I believe the iceberg here has a name: Mueller.

"After he finishes his term, he plans to return to South Carolina to practice law,” Gowdy spokeswoman Amanda Gonzalez told TPM in a statement.
Good. He needs the practice.
Then again, plans can change.
Because there isn’t really a get-out-of-jail-if-you-leave-congress card.
That statement is pretty inconsistent with previous rumblings Gowdy has made, however.
He has stated that he would prefer working in the Judicial side of things instead of the political, but that has always been interpreted as aiming for a judge’s seat. Setting up a private practice in SC makes zero sense.
I would keep an eye on this. The smart move for Gowdy is to accept such a position now, while republicans still hold the Senate, instead of gambling on it down the road when they may not. But I would definitely look at him entering the Courts, and not running for Governor or something else in the future.
Maybe Bob Inglis will run and get his old seat back - it would be an upgrade.
Don’t worry, Trey…I’ll always remember you…as the bumbling fool wasting everyone’s time interrogating Hillary for 11 hours, coming up empty handed, and reeking of desperation and incompetence. God help us you won’t wind up as a judge. We need smart people on the bench, not a despicable piece of crap such as yourself.
Maybe he wants Jefferson Beauregard’s old position as US Attorney in South Carolina. Where he wouldnt actually have to practice law.
???
He already held that position. So that would be step back, not forward for him.
All signs point to Gowdy still eyeing a Court seat somewhere. Although possibly state AG, but it seems late to be stepping into that race against an incumbent who has been there since 2010.
He’s holding out for Supreme Court.
This makes perfect sense to me. It’s all about the money, and public service doesn’t pay. So a short stint in Congress to a) harass the Dem presidential nominee, pumping innuendo in the form of relentless investigations in order to elect a Republican president, b) use the Republican president to push through a massive tax cut for the wealthy. Mission accomplished. Now it’s time to return to a high paying job in the private sector and reap the rewards of his hard work in Congress.
Either that or the 4th District Court of Appeals (which includes SC, NC, VA, MD, and DC); a country boy like Gowdy could do a lot of damage there, even more than in SCOTUS maybe.
Maybe he’s angling for AG when Sessions is finally fired.
Assuming you mean Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, he was US Attorney, AG, and US Senator of Alabama, not South Carolina.
It’s far easier to make millions on K Street than it is being a judge…
I meant Gowdy, who was the US Attorney for SC before running for the House.
Gawd, even Q-Tip Gowdy is bailing. Suddenly, there is a marked scarcity of ‘Depends’ within the Beltway. Repugs are unintentionally cornering the market. There’s a tsunami on the horizon.
Bill Thomas increased his earnings 10-fold in 2007. Now makes several million a year. Basically, climb the hierarchy, do some favors, cash out when the cashing is good. Gowdy’s behavior, while ethically challenged, is perfectly rational.
"… Gowdy turned down the opportunity to become a federal judge last year."
I’m surprised … cuz he strikes me as a person who’d be right at home wearing a robe. He could leave the pointy hats at home though….he’s already got that look down pat.
