Discussion: Gowdy: Classified Briefing 'Convinced' Me FBI Was Right To Use Informant

He’s a dairy farmer (as well as an idiot).

It’s not football season yet— no games to walk out of.

The FBI did and is doing what they should do. Now if we can can just get Gowdy and the R controlled congress to do what they are supposed to do. You know, what the the majority of US citizens, that voted for Hillary, want you to do.

Well was he idiot before becoming a dairy farmer-or did diary farming make him an idiot, then OSHA and the EPA might want to look into that.

My thinking is that there are three GOP schools of thought on PP and the Mueller investigation.

  1. Those who are terrified of their base and will protect PP no matter the cost to the country and their party. Mueller could produce a video of PP confessing to all, and these clowns will still fully support him. Mark Meadows and Devin Nunes are the poster boys here.

  2. Those who want to stay in PP’s good graces, yet also realize they need an escape hatch of some kind. They want the Mueller investigation to continue, so they can use it to get rid of PP if/when they feel the need. A lot of their willingness to go along to get along depends on the outcome of the midterms. I suspect this is where most of Republican leadership is.

  3. Those that see the writing on the wall and are mostly fleeing DC. They know where this is going, it’s plain to see. The only hope they have for a future in politics is to distance themselves and come back with an “I told ya so. Vote for me because I’m the adult in the room.” They want to be on the right side of history and hope to be the last ones standing to pick up the pieces of what’s left of the GOP. I would include Gowdy, Corker, Burr, Flake, Dent and a few others in this category.

The biggest tragedy here is that no one seems to be talking about the pernicious Orwellian doublespeak that Trump used in branding this “spygate” and the way it erases the history of the FACT that the New England Patriots are cheaters.

And at that point the trumpies who watch Fox News all changed the channel

Here’s a mixed message. Trey is defending the FBI’s use of an informant to talk to members of Trump’s campaign, but it had nothing to do with Trump?

Every little bit helps I guess.

He can ring that bell till November but he’s still a douche bag.

Excellent post, plucky

Gowdy is a former federal prosecutor. That experience might help him understand the difference between political grandstanding and s— getting real.

So is Giuliani. If there’s a correlation between being able to tell when shit is getting real, I don’t think that’s it.

Great post. My hope – perhaps a naïve hope – is that a significant number of Republican lawmakers are in that second category.

One thing I keep in the back of my mind. When the narrative does flip – which it eventually will by sheer weight of facts and passage of time, even if it takes years – it will flip hard. We should all remember the dark days of 2002-2003, when it seemed like nothing would dissuade the pro-Iraq-invasion crowd responsible for “Freedom Fries” and similar idiocy. Skip ahead five years and that entire crew was almost impossible to find. Very few of them admitted a mistake, and clung to rationalizations like “the war was a great idea but was corruptly/incompetently executed”, but their views did change, and that’s enough. I hope for something similar with Trump. We’ll never hear a lot of Trump-supporting politicians admit their support was a giant stupid mistake, but something like “I like some of what he said, but he turned out to be too corrupt to implement any of it” is very possible, even for politicians who seem like pretty hardcore Trumpers right now. That will be enough to impeach him. None of it will happen until Mueller releases a mountain of evidence all at once.

/end naïve rant

It’s the third crowd we need to keep an eye on, as they intend to be the agents, along with a complicit press, of the post-Trump Republican “renaissance”. See? The GOP is controlled by The Adults again! Go back to sleep, everybody!
