I just saw the other day someone I work with had posted on their facebook a while back that they wished Gowdy would go ahead and run for president! WTF
It’s a world gone mad!
He just likes having his name in the news. Doesn’t seem to care what for.

He’s a prick but he’s not stupid. There’s a group of people who see where things are going and are making sure they have an ostensible case for having tried to be good public servants as opposed to the utterly corrupt enablers. Off the top of my head you’ve got Flake, Corker, Sasse, Graham, Burr, all the rest we’ve seen. They’re stocking up these moves like canned food in a fallout shelter, to enable them to survive and rebuild.
Pretty much the way I see it too: these are political animals who have done the calculus and want to continue operating under the new regime. Not so much that they can’t continue to grift the dead-enders (perish the thought) but enough to avoid joining them in purgatory.
Glad I’m not the only one. 
These people juggle the desires of their various constituencies for a living. It’s just that these days those desires are so wildly incompatible that it’s becoming more of a contortionist act. You can’t get elected now without curtseying to the base, and you won’t be viable in the future without winking towards the sane contingent. Tough times but the bastards brought it on themselves.
