Discussion: Govt: Khattala Supervised Action At Benghazi

Discussion for article #224589

GOP POV: “All the more reason he must be shipped to Gitmo ASAP so we can find out how he got his orders DIRECTLY from Hillary and Obama! HASHTAG BRINGTHUHKRAYZEEEEEE!”

What?! Obama found one of the terrorists that perpetrated the Benghazi attacks?

Shouldn’t the Republican Noise Machine be happy? Isn’t there a room without a roof they can check into?

Yeah!! And how he was Skyping with Hillghazi and Obummer during the entire attack, and how they were all yukking it up about “building a memory.”

Is FOX and the RW machine still spewing BENGHAZZI?! I haven’t been paying attention.

I haven’t been paying attention, either, but I suspect they’re a little perplexed about how to spin this one. How do they make the capture of Khattala a “bad thing,” other than by ginning up some truly nutso conspiracy theories?

How do they make the proper functioning of our judiciary system seem like a travesty, thereby justifying the very existence of Gitmo? Tough to pull off when the wheels are grinding away exactly the way they’re supposed to.

And the whole “was it terrorism or just a mob that was angry about a video” conundrum is too nuanced for them to handle. It was, of course, a mix of both, but that’s tough to explain to the RW media “dull normal” viewers.

Hmmm. So, it was Ahmed Abu Khattala’s extreme ideology that motivated him to attack our compound in Benghazi.

But . . . but . . . but, I thought is was an obscure, 15-minute online video that caused the attack. That’s what the government said. Over, and over, and over, again.

And right on cue, one of the “dull normal” folks checks in, with his demonstrable inability to grasp something that isn’t a simple “a or b” choice.

Libya is like a bag full of firecrackers and M80’s - a volatile mix of disgruntled Islamists and self-styled jihadist groups with grandiose names and visions of Islamic triumphalism. The insulting video was a fuse. Khattala took the opportunity to light the fuse.

Take a look at graf 19 in this story. Sorta hard to misread this - unless you really want to.

Sadly, I really don’t think he actually reads.

Khattala has been quoted by Islamist fighters present at the Consulate as saying that he was motivated by the video.

“On the day of the attack, Islamists in Cairo had staged a demonstration outside the United States Embassy there to protest an American-made online video mocking Islam, and the protest culminated in a breach of the embassy’s walls — images that flashed through news coverage around the Arab world. As
the attack in Benghazi was unfolding a few hours later, Mr. Abu
Khattala told fellow Islamist fighters and others that the assault was retaliation for the same insulting video, according to people who heard him.”

They didn’t have any trouble spinning it - it was a distraction from the World Cup/Hillary’s book tour/IRS/Fast and Furious/ Watergate/Profumo/the Rosenbergs/Pearl Harbor /the Zimmerman Telegram, etc.

“bagful of firecrakers and M80s” - sitting next to a fireplace.

There seems to be a lull in the Benghazi propaganda machines output. Could it be Fox is starting to regret caving in to the demented bases’ demand for “all Benghazi, all the time”? Hum. With Fox ratings tanking anything is possible.
